If there is a more overrated GM in the league no idea who it is. Burke is probably one of the worst GM's in the NHL because the guy actually has no clue what he's doing and never has.

But but .... he drafted the Sedins ... and Kesler Laughing3

But yes I can't stand him, so overrated, especially since he takes way too much credit for building the Ducks when Murray did basically all of it. What an arrogant blowhard, I really hope this finally exposes him for the douche that he is.

Fixed. Murray drafted Perry, Getzlaf, he brought in Scott's brother Rob, without they don't get Scott. He got MacDonald and Penner from college, he signed Federov who was a piece Burke used, he drafted all the pieces Burke used to get Pronger. Burke literally made a couple calls and took all the credit. Everyone with 1/2 a brain knows this.

I sort of disagree there. Cliff "Methuselah" Fletcher did a nice job clearing the deck for Jurke, unloading some older players and picking up a few picks. Jurke messed things up from there.

Burke thought he had a winner when he started and traded (what ended up to be) 2 high picks for Kessel, he thought he had a playoff team and those would be low picks.

Burke thought James Reimer was a #1 goalie (kind of like he thought Dan Cloutier was)

Burke is more interested in keeping his buddy Wilson employed than seeing what an awful coach he is

He's a horrible evaluator of talent, he thought Tim Connolly would improve the team ? Phaneuf is NHL captain material ?

He is sitting up in his office, thinking this team can pull off a 100pt pace and still make the playoffs Laugh1

My favorite quote on Burke, from this DGB post.

Worth noting: It may be a bad sign that the last time Brian Burke and Ron Wilson assembled this many Americans on one roster they became the only team in hockey history to lose a big game to Roberto Luongo.

Now he walks around with his tie undone. WTF is up with that? Is that the "hard at work" look? What's next, a white hard hat and clipboard?

Oh I love doing that !!

I think we've trolled them already. After all the crap Toronto said about Ottawa last year, we're in a playoff spot, they're not. We're at the cap floor, they're near the ceiling.

They're all hoping the Marlies win the Calder Cup so they can do what we did Laugh1

It's like teasing handicapped people, except more of a waste of time.

What do you mean, "like"?

meh I just wanted to at the time because a leafs fan kept talking about how awesome of a job Brian Burke has done and kept defending the Kessel trade

I don't think the concept behind the Kessel trade was that bad: two first-rounders for a first line sniper. It's just when you have no reason to expect your club to be finishing in the top half of the league, you're better off keeping your first rounders with an eye more towards the future.

If, say, the Canucks, Red Wings, or someone else consistently good, had made that trade, it'd make a lot more sense.

Good morning Maple Leafs... say hello to 11th spot in the East.

They are as many points out of 8th as they are out of 15th. And we all know which way this is going.

Well the good thing is the Leafs are always good enough in March to just miss out on the playoffs... this year should be no different. As long as they finish out of the top 5, we're good!

I'm really interested in what the Genius will do by the time the next season rolls around Laugh1

$13M in cap space and 16 players under contract.

The Leafs mantra:
- when they are in a playoff position, they implode and fall to 10th and miss the playoffs
- when they are out of a playoff position, they play loosey goosey and rise to 10th and miss the playoffs
- when they finally end up with a high draft pick, they trade it away

Article about stats in hockey:

http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2012/03/02/hockey-has-yet-to-have-moneyball-style-statistical-breakthrough-brian-burke-of-leafs-says/

Surprise surprise, Burkie says that a lot of stats are useless and there's been no "moneyball" franchies to win a sports champsionship. The other guy on his side? Mike Milbury.

The opposition: Pete Chiarelli.

Who's side would you be on?

Have to agree with Burke. This isn't baseball.

This writer Staples...all he does is use these stats every single night to evaluate the Oilers. It's very annoying.
