Kuba injures leg at practice

Campoli fancies himself a 3 or 4. This may be his chance to back that up.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought as well.

Hopefully he's not out for more than 4 weeks, I'm really hoping it's just a moderate knee sprain. He'll be able to get back to training within 2 weeks and should be cleared by doctors for full contact by the third week.

In that scenario, he'd only miss about 3 or 4 games at the most.

Not so great, BUT hopefully its short term and other players can really step it up. I'd love a strong start to the season.

I think some people are (were?) over-reacting. At least in the TIDBITS thread. Last year, when Kuba went down early, it affected Karlsson as well. He went through a rough patch and got sent down and we're all pretty sure that this would not have happened if he kept his training-camp partner and mentor.

The team survived without Kuba last season and, surely, we can survive a few weeks without him this year -- I'm not suggesting that Gryba or Cowen can take his 23 minutes or whatever he was averaging, but Gonchar certainly can. And Karlsson is not going to be sent down, which means we don't have to see Lee or Carkner on the second pairing. Either Carkner or Campoli can fill in as that 3-4 guy until Kuba is back and, who knows, this possibly opens a spot up for both Gryba *and* Cowen to get a few games in and show what they can do.

Yeah, last year he lasted all of pre-season.

It's unfortunate but crap happens. Imagine how he must feel? I listened to the interview he gave (or maybe I read it) and he sounded like he was in great shape (100%) and eager to get back to it. This must really suck for him.

Karlsson was traded to group 1 for Gonchar and Hale.

okay that's not too bad then. Sorta like Foligno's injury. Since its training camp, he's most likely going to miss 3-4 weeks at the start of the season, so expect to see him back by November. better than a tear, that's for sure

Sometimes a break is better than a sprain... break will heal stronger and should not be a factor like a "nagging injury" later. The biggest issue will be conditioning as he'll be quite limited while he heals.

Mendes is saying the break is clean, no surgery required. That's good.

Actually, it was Day 1.

Camp opened on Friday with medicals, etc. Saturday was their first day on the ice, but the second day of camp.

Hypothetically, Kuba could have, say, tripped on the weigh-in scale on day one and taken Leclaire with him.

Ah... I meant Day 1 on the ice.

He's a lucky guy, so is the team, so are the fans. That's a lot better than what I was thinking it was gonna be (minimum of 10 weeks).

Also, Kuba tends to put up multi-point games routinely when he comes back from injury.
