According to NHL Sources Say, the Ducks have traded newly re-signed D James Wisniewski to the Isles for a 3rd round draft pick

It is a done deal: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=535258

Apparently Ducks want Kaberle to mentor Fowler

Are the Ducks targeting Kaberle?

That's what they are saying.

I don't really understand, I guess I didn't know the rule about players who win their arb. hearings. I thought the team either walked away or couldn't trade the player for one year.

I must have it mixed up with offer sheet rulings.

Wisniewski re-signed prior to arbitration, but regardless, you can trade a player who is awarded a contract via arbitration.

This is a head-scratcher of a move. The Ducks' D was pretty woeful before they traded Wisniewski. Now it's even thinner. Either they've got a few D lined up via trade and/or FA (Kaberle? Mitchell? Sutton?), or they're going into full-out rebuild mode and creating spots/ice time for guys like Sbisa and Fowler.

Also, positively brutal return.

Really don't get it.

Sutton. I'm convinced personally - he'll sign there this weekend or next week latest.

It's either a pure salary dump (they may be in money trouble over in Anaheim), or like Rooney said it's to create spaces for Sbisa and Fowler, who are gonna be good ones. Sbisa especially is a guy to watch if he makes the team this year.

I don't think getting Sutton woud make sense. He is a downgrade from Wiz and it would only save like $1 million by signing him.

From what I watched last year, the Wiz is pretty bad. He's a big body with decent passing and shooting skills, but def. only worth 2 mil max. He sorta reminded me of Redden, the latter years.

My guess is that Burke has an eye on a 1-2 forward prospects that he scouted before he left and wants to get them back. The ducks will use those in a trade to get Kaberle and then pick up Sutton via FA.

Burke wants Bobby Ryan. This is a very similar situation as with Kessel and Boston last year.

Kaberle + for Ryan might do it.

I'm not sure what kind of +'s you are talking about, but I think the Ducks would be crazy to do that given their talent pool and situation right now.

Wisniewski is not bad, he's just injury-prone.

Yeah, there isn't a situation where the ducks send Ryan for Kaberle. Two quality forward prospects would do it, imo.

One thing I know for sure, The Ducks are not done. I wouldn't be surprised if Sutton has been signed already and are just waiting to make sure the Wiz passes his physical for the islanders.

They will more than likely make one more trade as well for an additional D-man. I would guess its either Kaberle or Salvador, which makes any trade they make contingent on Kovelgate.
