You're paying for potential. Pretty much the same thing that happend with Leclaire here. I like the deal because it is a low risk, high reward for The Stars. Is he going to be any worse then Turco? Probably not. Has to stay healthy though.

Because he is Hezus, or because he got down on his ruined knees and asked Hezus for this kind of cash?

Potential, I'll agree, he's got tons of it, but...you know what I'm saying when I say that he's yet to prove it - at all. He came into Dallas and put up a 3.00 GAA or something and a 6-4 record, hardly the kind of numbers where I'd be dancing around offering him 3.5 million per season.

I hope it works out for Dallas, they really don't need a bust at that price.

This is why I shake my head at folks that think players are going to "settle" for reasonable contracts.

Look no further than Ference and now Lehtonen.

Don't let us fall into that. It's very important we walk away from that kind of thing. You want to believe in your guys, you want to reward them, but eventually these signings catch up to you and you're stuck trading someone you really don't want to.

These kind of signing will be the death of a couple of teams. Lehtonen I don't understand, but I can see - if that makes sense. They needed a started, he's a young dude, full of potential, but Ference is what he is. Not worth that kind of coin.

This is exactly like giving A-Train 4.5 million - it's a mistake to whoever does it.

I can see because I've heard it said that Lehtonen is the most talented goalie in the NHL. Then again, many have said that Kovalev is the most talented player in the NHL... And I don't entirely disagree with the latter. So, yeah, it makes sense (to me, anyway).

They also both have 5 plus years in The NHL. Vets can go off and get paid if they wish.

I like this Lehtonen deal because they really have no other options and his potential is higher then anyone's coming onto the market. I mean, they could try and take a shot at Price but at what cost? Lehtonen is free.
