He won't make it to us I don't think. There has to be some teams that are ahead of us in the claim line who wouldn't mind giving this dude a chance at 750K. Atlanta, Colorado, Florida, Carolina (why not, really, they'll just end up re-trading all these players at the deadline or letting them walk in the summer - plus it worked for J.Jokinen.

If he makes us, I think we probably take him, yeah. But then again, Murray's used up almost all our cap space for injury replacements, so he'd have to send someone to the minors or make a trade.

This can't be a surprise to Sykora. Apparently, their is a clause in his contract that allows him to go mid-season to Europe. Apparently, both sides planned for this.

Sykora cleared waivers according to Russo.

The new NHL just doesn't have space for these guys anymore. Everyone saw this coming with a salary cap in place but superstar players who command 20% of it on their own.
