If there's one guy I really appreciate, it's Regin. He's seems bigger to me than he was earlier in the year and he commands the puck much better. There was a play in one of the last two where he intercepted a puck at the oppositions blue line, then torpedoed it up the middle before making a Kovalev-type wrist shot that ultimately got stopped. But the point of all that was that he took charge of the situation instead of chipping it in and chasing it.

And it wasn't the first time I had noticed that. We were in the 100s for the NYIsles game on NY's Eve and he did the same thing. There was a turn over at center ice and he took the puck with authority up the wing before shooting and scoring (a weak one) on Roloson.

I was quite impressed and thought it absolutely showed him growing as an effective offensive two-way player.

Yeah, there's no criticizing the rookies. Kelly's another guy who definitely doesn't deserve criticism: he's definitely proved me wrong when I said I didn't think there was a role on the team for him any more.

It's still pretty sad when a rookie is your #1 centre and Kelly is your go-to-guy on offence.

That would be a great game to have him back since he has his way with the Habs historically speaking.

In your defense, though, there wasn't a role for Kelly until Spezza sucked, Michalek and Fisher cooled off and all the injuries happened (OK, so probably "until" should be something more like "if not for").

To expand a little more, we have a rookie callup -- Regin -- filling in as the top-line center, instead of Kelly, who has been a centerman here for a long time, having even done the job (filling in on the top line) in the past. Even with his recent success in scoring (and, let's face it, he is not a scoring machine even now) he is still closer to replacing Winchester as the 4th line center than Spezza or Fisher on the top line.

Speaking of which, who replaces Fisher when he goes down? The way he is playing he must be injured, a hit in the wrong place and he could be out for a couple of games.

The Sens need to get some unreal goaltending if they're going to survive this stretch with all the injuries they've been having. They'll also need teams below them to struggle as well. Throw in a surprise performance or 10 from the rookie callups and we just might maintain a playoff spot by the time the injured players return.

I'm not even hoping for maintaining that spot. I'm good if we have no more than one team ahead of us when Alfie comes back and is back in game shape.

And I think this thread deserves one of these -- long overdue, in fact:

Crap, what happened to the old smiley? I only have a "Praise Neely" copy and no editing s/w other than MS Paint. So this one has a "no movement clause". If anyone kept the old one, fetch it hither with all speed.

Crap, I got to my desktop upstairs and still could not find a copy. And even though I have Paint.net and the plugin required to edit animated (multi-layer) images, it had some weirdness to it (need a plugin -- which I have, then requires renaming the file with extension .agif or .apng, plus something else I'd obviously forgotten).

Fisher is playing like Fisher. He's back to being nothing more than a slight upgrade on Shean Donovan.

It's all your Avatar's fault too. Look what you did to poor Winchester as well. Dammit!

Perhaps you should switch your Avatar to Kuba? Sarcasm
