Saw this on SNet...

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson could be back in the lineup within the next 7-10 days, according to head coach Cory Clouston.

He is recovering quicker than anticipated from a shoulder injury he sustained on December 23rd. Alfredsson won't travel with the team to start their upcoming five-game road trip, but there is a chance he could join the team for one of the final two games.

Meantime, Jason Spezza's knee is also recovering ahead of schedule and it looks like the centre could return before the Olympic break. Spezza, who suffered a torn MCL in his right knee, could resume skating in the next couple of days and Clouston said he could be back in the lineup within three weeks.

Sounds promising.

Apparently a possibility for Alfredsson would be the Montreal game.

As much as we need them back, I'd prefer they come back 100% so if that means a little while longer so be it.

Unfortunately we can't really wait much longer for them to get back to full 100%, as soon as they can lace them up, they need to get in there.

Icing several call-ups per night is not a playoff solution.

As well as Carkner has played, and as much promise as Karlsson has shown, those two could easily be playing in Bingo. Same can be said for Campoli and Picard. Now that Kuba is injured (not that he was playing any better) the only true NHL-calibre defensemen we have left are Philips and Volchenkov, and they are the 2nd pairing, shut-down guys whose true worth comes through in the playoffs.

So that's the state of our D. And our forwards aren't much better. The only reason Cheechoo is in the lineup is because of his salary. Smith and St. Pierre are callups, and Regin is pretty much a rookie.

We are in sad, sad shape right now.

I'd say Cheechoo is in the lineup because we can't really rape Bingo for much more. We are down several bodies now. I was hoping he'd step up in the absence of others, but it's plain to me now that he's nothing more than what I'd hoped he wasn't: a washed-up player. Sad...I really want to like that guy.

I'm just trying to say that Cheechoo is not doing any more than a 3rd or 4th call up would be doing.

Oh I know, but given his salary and history, that makes him a wash up. Alfie and Spezza injury update 270956

Too bad, I thought he could really thrive here under the right circumstances, but he never had a chance.

How many more injures can this team sustain before the league declares us a minor league team?

Dammit...some teams have horrendous injuries and use callups and everything is okay. It hasn't happened that way so far unfortunately. That sucks.

There's only so many guys you can call up that will have an actual impact though. I'd say we are basically 0fer in that department this year.

If there's one guy I really appreciate, it's Regin. He's seems bigger to me than he was earlier in the year and he commands the puck much better. There was a play in one of the last two where he intercepted a puck at the oppositions blue line, then torpedoed it up the middle before making a Kovalev-type wrist shot that ultimately got stopped. But the point of all that was that he took charge of the situation instead of chipping it in and chasing it.

And it wasn't the first time I had noticed that. We were in the 100s for the NYIsles game on NY's Eve and he did the same thing. There was a turn over at center ice and he took the puck with authority up the wing before shooting and scoring (a weak one) on Roloson.

I was quite impressed and thought it absolutely showed him growing as an effective offensive two-way player.
