Just finished watching from the 2nd on. Never once saw Petersson, which was hugely disappointing to me. Cowen didn't play much, again, very disappointing.

Silfverberg was always the center of any good play Sweden made. Really nice game from him.

He is. He's better than Hedman was when Hedman was 16. But he's still 16. He's in no way over his head as a top-4 defenceman in this tournament, but Karlsson and Hedman would be the best two defencemen in the tourney by a pretty significant margin IMO. Although Pietrangelo looks much improved.

He'll definitely be one of the most productive.

He's not an Alfredsson, though.

He's a bit like Regin. You can pretty much write in stone that he's going to be in the NHL, it just remains to be seen on what line.

Really safe pick there.

I only saw the score. Was Canada as dominant as the score would indicate?

I struggled to stay awake up until the first Sweden goal then had to pack it in. Good game though, had the intensity of a gold medal game. Obviously the score was lopsided, but the rivalry was still brewing strong.

I think Cormier should be suspended. I don't want him to be, but he should. It was a stupid thing to do, even more so for the team Captain to do.

Sounds like Hall will be okay to return to action, that he sat out for precautionary reasons. Probably smart since Sweden was looking for blood after Cormier's cheap shot.

Also did not hear or see much of Cowen or Petersson. Only time I remember hearing Petersson's name was when he almost scored on his own net. Good for Silfverberg putting up a goal. Don't remember the announcers referring to him as a Sens pick, but they did with Cowen and Petersson.

There's a certain #4 playing for Canada who wouldn't look to shabby playing here. The Official 2010 WJC Thread - Page 8 Icon_wink

It wasn't all that encouraging to see him make so many blunders to start the game and then see the bench for the rest of it.

Anyone think Spezza can be traded at the draft for Hall? The Official 2010 WJC Thread - Page 8 159628 The Official 2010 WJC Thread - Page 8 489887 I can't believe thats so out of the question at this point.

Sweden's still a medal lock, but I'm less confident they can beat Canada this year.

their defense backs off SO much...I don't know if thats the system or just too much respect for the Canadian offense, but they'll never shut down Canada by giving them that much space.

That pretty much sums it up. I was trying not to be too enthusiastic about Silfverberg because I also saw a lot of areas for improvement in his game, which pretty much goes without saying. I think part of it is just what asq said about not being able to place him on a particular line. He could really be a great 2nd liner or he could be a solid 3rd liner, but he's not a slam dunk for a top-6 role. We all tend to forget or overlook the fact that he was taken ahead of Lehner. That may have just been drafting strategy, but it also speaks to how highly they think of the kid.

As for Petersson, like I said, I don't think he had a shift after the 10 minute mark of the 1st. 3-4 ugly mistakes and he was riding pine. Not much more to say about his game...

Not seeing Cowen was definitely disappointing. I didn't even know who he was until the start of the 2nd (maybe end of first, I dunno..point is he didn't play much). I also don't think I saw him with the puck on his stick more than once or twice. I think whats happening to him at this tournament (role cast) is exactly what asq doesn't want to happen to him next season if he ends up here. I have to agree. We can't pigeon-hole one of our top-5 prospects.

They did, McGuire said 'Sens player Silfverberg - I mean, Sens draft pick Silfverberg circles to the front of the net...'

Interesting. I can see that actually, if he got so little ice time there and Clouston was thinking of doing the same, then it's a waste. I want him to step up and be in the top 4 for us right off the bat. Why? Because he can handle it and continue to develop. But if he's not gonna see 20+ minutes a night, then there's little use.

As for Silfverberg, I liked what I saw a lot, but I refuse to get too excited. Yes, he looks like a kid that can play any line, he's got grit, skills and ultimately the ability to make plays at high speed and in close.

The fact that he got a goal and was making excellent reads/plays all night is astounding considering the Swedes were destroyed by the Canadians the minute the puck was dropped. Very nice work by him, Tenenby and someone else who caught my eye (can't remember).

The idiot Cormier should know better. What a dumb thing to do when you're up and you've already completely dominated the Swedes. Sure, I'll just stick my elbow out on a line chance for fun. Dumbass.

May I also add that I find it absolutely astounding that Cowen isn't being played more - especially with either Pieterangelo or Teubert, this is God's gift to the Canadian coaching staff - enjoy it! Cowen with Teubert = death.

However, while I was watching last night, I started to realize that by the time this tourney is over, Cowen will have carved himself a niche as a killer out there.

I thought Sweden dominated Canada pretty good for the first 5-6 minutes of the 1st, then it was a pretty tight game until the 2nd goal squeeked by. The more I see from Markstrom (who I was HUGE on prior to the draft) the more I think the Red Wings passed on him, not because of his skill, but because of his personality.

The other guy that caught your attention could have been MPS or Josefson. Probably Josefson, as he was on Tedenby's line.

It was Josefson I believe, although MPS was good as well. Their D is...not great though.

Markstrom is a nut bar. He might be the next Hextall (if he can play as good as Ron did). But he certainly might be as insane as him. I think if JM was a skater he'd be suspended constantly for illegal hits, stick infractions, etc.

I just don't get it. I've met the guy in person (albeit briefly) and he's nothing like some of the stuff he does on the ice.
