meh, not really high on bringing a guy in like chelios, I am okay with a veteran D-man, but not someone this old.

I don't understand. GAME DAY: Pittsburgh Penguins @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30pm ET - Mon. Oct. 12th, 2009 - Page 16 428331

The period I saw showed me a system, a well-balanced attack (granted, a largely unsuccessful one) and bounces not going our way. That was more promising for me than our close victories over Dung teams like Toronto and NYI.

The defence is a problem but will benefit greatly from Kuba and, hopefully, Lee. Leclaire should only really be faulted on the first Kennedy goal.

The powerplay sucks, though, that's for true.

I agree, the team looked pretty good last night and if it weren't for a few crappy bounces the result woudl have been much different.

Spez, let's not forget that we were playing an elite team last night!

Im against 50 year old players who cant play anymore. All those things oyu just named are what a coach should bring, not a D man that's 50 years old, cant play in The NHL anymore, and is holiding on waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.

Listen, I'm not trying to be a smarta** and would normally agree. But this guy is known for his conditioning. I'm just saying if you have to pair Karlsson with someone, why not let him learn from a guy like chelios. We are talking bottom 6 pairng for one year.

And, it's going to start going in for Spezza. Soon.

Karlsson, as was expected prior to the pre-season where he was great, should probably get more time in the minors. Kuba's also going to return, which should help out our D considerably. I'd also call up Lee, who is less effective offensively but more steady than Picard, IMO.

That would give us:

Phillips - Volchenkov
Kuba - Campoli
Lee
- Carkner

Which is pretty steady as she goes.

IMO, the third period I saw was more convincing for me of this team's potential than our wins over the Leafs or NYI.

Why on earth would either of those guys be in for Karlsson or Picard? One didnt make the team and the other is playing brutal.

If a team like Detroit passed on him, I'd take that as a hint that he's not worth it.

For the first time this season, I'm really excited about our forward lines. And, I thought Kovalev - Fisher - Alfredsson looked especially good. There's a lot of potential there.

Definitely, the defence needs tweaking, but again so much will be gained just from the return of FK. Sub Kuba and Lee in for Karlsson and Picard and the defence looks very solid - or, at the very least, not a weakness that will lose us games.

Michalek - Spezza - Cheechoo
Kovalev - Fisher - Alfredsson
Foligno - Regin - Shannon
Neil - Winchester - Ruutu

Phillips - Volchenkov
Kuba - Campoli
Lee - Carkner

Leclaire
Elliott

That looks like a playoff team for sure.

Get that pile of Dung out of there. What a fuckin loser that guy is...Karlsson doesn't deserve to have a single one of those minuses...give them all to that idiot Campoli.
I 100% agree with you. I've never been sold on Campoli and Picard has just been a big letdown for me---I expected much better from him. I would much rather have Kuba-Karlsson as the 2nd pairing. Everything else looks right.

Ive like Picard thus far, havnt loved him, but he's been solid. No doubt in my mind that Campoli should be the guy coming out of the lineup. He has been awful, hasnt produced, been a big liability defensivly. I took the wait and see approch about him but I've waited and what I have seen isnt good.

Karlsson out of the lineup? What for? He's been good for the most part and put in a position to fail right now playing with Campoli, yet he is still playing pretty well.

Picard/Carkner have been a VERY good pair.

Karlsson is not ready for the NHL! There is no point on him playing the 5th, 6th d-man, he needs top minutes and he cannot handle those top minutes in the NHL.

There is no point in rushing a future corner stone of our defence.

Lee didn't make the team because he could be sent down on a two way deal

glad we are on the same page there, Chelios is done like dinner, should flash back to one of the last games Ottawa played against Detroit, Vermette was still here and he speeded past Chelios like he didn't even exist, I don't want that, if anything, I wish Gator didn't get hurt like he did and was still one of our D-men, now he was leadership material.

Karlsson is paired with Kuba.  I think Kuba will do a better job teaching than Chelios.  Replacing one of Picard or Campoli also makes no sense.  All three are not great...the difference is with Picard and Campoli, there's a chance they will improve.  Chelios, not so much.

If not chelios, is there any other vetran d-man out there that is not being used or maybe not signed who could come in and play bottom 6 minutes with Karlsson? I have a picard/campoli for trade bait.

I'm 100% not sold on Picard in the least. I've tried to be patient, but there's almost nothing I like about him. I like his shot on the PP, but clearly that's not even getting through.

Perhaps people here are right and Chelios is too old...I liked what I saw when they subbed him in the WCF, I thought he rushed the puck up pretty good for a geezer, but he's closing in on 50, I suppose that reason enough to pause.

Karlsson MIGHT be able to stick with this team when Kuba comes back, but I have some doubts.

He's look ready his entire time here. He has made rookie misrakes and has been better every game. He doesnt look out of place at all, is getting a good amount of mins every game and PP time.

Karlsson shouldnt be expected to make up for a vet's gafs like Campoli, should be the other way around.
