Yeah, putting him out with someone who won't cover up for him but for whom he'll have to cover up is not the smartest way to go.

I can't even begin to understand how bad Campoli has been. He hasn't been involved in the offense at all, his defensive play has been miserable (which is almost a compliment because I don't believe there is a negative enough word in the language to describe his poor play) and he seems to be getting roughed up by the third and fourth liners of the other teams when he should be using his skill to expose them.

Leafs'-calibre.

Good Lord they've been terrible. 0-4-1, 12 goals for and 24 goals against. And Burkie said in an interview on Sportsnet that he felt he had the best blue-line 1 through 6 in the NHL. GAME DAY: Pittsburgh Penguins @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30pm ET - Mon. Oct. 12th, 2009 - Page 12 668437

Hardly surprising, though, given they traded Kubina (a top-pairing d-man for them), Stralman (their best offensive defenceman prospect), Stapleton and a third and seventh (in 2012, granted) for Garnet Exelby (barely AHL calibre last season), Wayne Primeau (dime-per-dozen) and a 2nd round pick in 2011 (the shallowest draft in recent memory).

Granted, I thought they'd be pretty good this season.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Watched the game.

Good:
Michalek-Spezza-Cheechoo looked promising. Please keep this line (for now at least). Cheechoo's best game in a Sens uniform by far.
Alfie's line had an off night, one of the worst games for #11 in memory.
3rd and 4th lines seemed to be doing good.
I thought Pascal was pretty good, some freaky bounces he got there.

The bad:
Campoli GAME DAY: Pittsburgh Penguins @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30pm ET - Mon. Oct. 12th, 2009 - Page 12 812636 Our defence in general worries me
Karlsson, he's a talented kid but he looks like a fish out of water out there
The power play ... do they even practice it ?
Bad bounces ... sounds like karma for the luck we had so far.

Overall I was happy with the effort, we need to keep working on the offensive chemistry and do something about some of the numbskulls we got on our defence.

Really depressing. I missed the game and I'm not going back to the PVR. Same old Dung, different season. Oh, we can't score, but it was sooooo close! Diddle off with that Dung. Not good enough.

Yeah, Cheechoo looked very good. I think Spezza's the guy on the team to bring the best of them. Michalek seemed to complement Spezza much better than he has in the past few games - perhaps it was because the Spezza I saw (in the third) was doing more than just camping out on the perimeter.

He's so dangerous when he skates like that and attacks the inside.

If you told me they would be 3-2 to start the season, I'd take it. With a win Thursday night, the Sens go 3-1 on their homestand. Again, I'll take it. This team will be much better after the first 20-25 games.

I don't understand. GAME DAY: Pittsburgh Penguins @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30pm ET - Mon. Oct. 12th, 2009 - Page 12 428331

The period I saw showed me a system, a well-balanced attack (granted, a largely unsuccessful one) and bounces not going our way. That was more promising for me than our close victories over Dung teams like Toronto and NYI.

The defence is a problem but will benefit greatly from Kuba and, hopefully, Lee. Leclaire should only really be faulted on the first Kennedy goal.

The powerplay sucks, though, that's for true.

I agree with everything you just said asq. As for the powerplay, how the hell is shoot not your first, second, third, fourth and fifth options when you're on a 5 on 3? It took them almost 35 seconds to register a shot on the two-man advantage...that's just Diddling unacceptable.

I'll go through and read the thread tomorrow, but if we played well and lost, I'll accept it. It sucks though because this was a measuring stick - no matter how early - and we missed the opportunity to make a bit of a statement.

Back at it Thursday I guess.

I agree fully with that sentiment, and if people aren't seeing it this way I feel they are flip flopping on this team each win and loss regardless of what happens on the ice.

I agree, sometimes people see losses as all negatives ... there were definately a few positives out there tonight, people need to stop being so narrow-sighted.

How about that Michalek goal, great passing play.

+1
I agree completely. I was more impressed, for the most part (excluding the PP) with this game than with big chunks of the wins so far. This was a good game. The first two goals particularly were bad bounces. The glitch in the end boards and the puck off Karlsson's skate were, IMO, nothing but karma for the lucky bounces the Sens got to win a couple games.

This stuff happens. The PK was awesome. The new lines will continue to grow and be dangerous. Kovalev needs to decide on his role and the defense needs some work, but, as it stands now, I'm happy with the chances this team has to end the skid that they were on for the last couple of seasons.

seriously that 5 on 3 was unacceptable not only were they not hooting but they it was lazy! slow puck movement almost as if noone wanted to have the puck.

picard played a bad one and so did campoli and karlsson. i agree that Lee might get his number called sooner then later. but even if the new lines looked great and the first 2 periods looked great and the the first 2 pittsburg goals were lucky why does that leave us with only one goal? for one kovy was lazy on the ice, actualy the whole 2nd line looked bad in the 3rd. too many bad passes from the back end. man i hope the next game makes us forget this game. but we got to win some against teams like this.

horrible night, let's hope for a huge rebound against the Lightning on Thursday, hate when there are so many days between an ugly loss, just want them to get back out there and win again, first things first, score a few more goals, if this keeps up, the hockey world will be saying the Sens are missing Dany Heatley, if it hasn't started already.

I personally hoped for a win last night but did not expect it. Ottawa, IMO, will be scrapping it out for 7th or 8th so this is going to happen to them against elite team. Baby steps here. They kept Malkin and Crosby off the score sheet.

I thought Spezz finally changed over to the composite sticks now, unless he reverted back again. GAME DAY: Pittsburgh Penguins @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30pm ET - Mon. Oct. 12th, 2009 - Page 12 42360

I thought that he changed because they stopped making the wooden sticks.
