Senators announced yesterday that they were not going to have any PPV games this year. The article is linked above, but essentially with so many games being covered by tv broadcasters already (64) and CBC regional coverage still to be decided they felt there were not enough games.

The article also eludes to another broadcaster not yet involved who may pick up more games, leaving as little as 2 or 3 that are not televised.

Nicely Done...

this is AWESOME news...

While I enjoy watching a game with no ads and such, at $10.99 a pop, to forego it is excellent!

Thanks DW for the news. Smile

The were a total pain. I mean, I spend $200+ a year on Centre Ice, and then I have to turn around and pay another $66-77 for a couple of Sens games -- Sens games being the primary reason why I buy Centre Ice in the first place? Dumb. It made me resent everbody involved in the whole process, especially since the broadcasts were so crappy, often losing audio or even the picture altogether for 20 minute stetches at at time.

Of course, this year, I'm getting Centre Ice for free -- someone at Rogers forgot to switch my channels off after I cancelled them LOL -- so this means I won't be paying a cent for any games. Finally, some sweet revenge for the little guy.

On the one hand, its great that they decided to not do those ridiculous Sens' PPV games. On the other hand, I really don't care either way, I have american satellite at home so I usually get the FSN feed for the game, and for the ones I didn't get I'd just go down to an ESM or something like that and grab a drink and half-price app and chill.

PPV games were the worst thing that happened to professional sports. I mean, the point of watching it on tv is that you don't have to pay ( except for the provider charges obviously ) and fork over hundreds of dollars to get standing room at the scotiabank place, and then if you finally cave, you pay money, and you get to experience the game at its fullest at the rink. You shouldn't have to pay to watch the damn game on tv i just find that really stupid. This is music to my ears.

Too bad for me still - being in Leafs territory I'll only get to see the odd games. That is unless I get my FTA box up and running.

FTA are those the boxes that can decode the satelite stream? I think I've heard of them. That explains why everyone in my neighborhood has 2 or 3 dishes on their house.

I've heard Wink that the only thing not working is the NFL channels...although I wouldn't know this to be true.

Good to hear. This did not affect me really as I live in the GTA and did not have to pay the PPV as I got in on NHL Center Ice, but, the PPV broadcasts always seemed to have issues with video or audio drop-outs. Good riddance!
