If the cap is right, would you like him in a Sens Jersey?

The Senators are keeping their options open up front.

While the club is still holding talks with unrestricted free-agent
centre Mike Comrie, league sources say GM Bryan Murray has also held
serious discussions with Penguins winger Petr Sykora — also a UFA — and
he’s at the top of the Senators’ radar screen if they can trade Dany
Heatley before training camp.

For the right price, sign him in a second. Unfortunately, until a trade for DH is made, we won't know what the right price would be.

The question is, at the expense of who? I like the way he spoke during an interview I saw with him in the Finals. Comes off like a real leader and team guy.

It would all depend on who goes with DH. If he goes to the Sharks, BM would likely have to include a cheap contract. If the trade is for DH alone and the Sens get a few NHL ready players back, then it wouldn't make much sense to look at UFA's.

The bottom line is that any player that will make the team better is worth a look, provided the Sens have cap space. Nothing can be done about it until that happens.

What I wonder about is whether Murray has made many calls that don't involve DH looking to free up space, and, if so, who he is trying to move.

I guess the thinking is Murray is getting offers from teams for Heatley that don't really include big-time (or big-contract) forwards.

Sykora's not Heatley, but he did score 25 last season and would add to our scoring depth. If Murray can get a deal centred around defenceman like Burns, signing Sykora would help fill the void.

not to mention he will be bringing Hilary Muff in tow, the girlfriend quotient at games this year at Scotiabank Place will be very high if Underwood, Allemand and Muff all show up together.

I like Sykora personally. Go for it. If it means Regin spends another year in the AHL conditioning, so be it.

not certain if I am sold on Sykora, rather fill the talent ranks from within. I think personally think Regin is NHL ready and more time in the AHL may be a hinderance.

how have we not even looked at Taylor Pyatt, he has had two decent seasons, 60 pts in 79 games in 07/08 and 43 pts in 69 games this last season, not huge of course, but decent production for cheap. Is there something about this guy that is a huge concern I do not know about?

This guy has consistently been a 25 goal scorer making 2.5-3 million lately. Seems to work hard and be a team player. If we could trade heatley to a team that just wanted to give us a solid top 4 dman back and picks/prospects, I would be all for signing Sydor and Comrie.

alfie spezza sydor
regin comrie kovalev
foligno fisher shannon
ruttu kelly neil

kuba campoli
volch burns?
phillips lee/karlsson
