There are several rumours that this is actually already done...if anyone cares.

UPDATE: Done according to TSN (pending a physical).

Not sure how they'll fit that in... Helm in the minors?

More likely Abdelkader. Not a fan, but meh.

Is he expected to make the roster? Helm also has a two-way...

Well, they apparently know what they're doing, so who am I to question it? However I question everything, so here goes. The Wings do not need scoring help; they do not leadership or experience help; I don't know if Bertuzzi will ever be effective again in providing toughness. So I don't really get this. Yeah, he can probably give them something more than Abdelkader or Helm, short-term, but they don't need this help short-term, and long-term this may cost them one year of one of those young guys.

Yeah, this is a puzzling one... unless they feel the "young guys" are not ready and want to give them more time... strange signing... especially if it's $1.5M...

This can't be true. Detroit has a rich history of making the clever decision not the stupid one.

Bertuzzi, Eaves and Williams added together don't even make up for the loss of Hudler on the scoresheet; let alone if you add up the 3 salaries, they could have had Hudler for a tad more. By adding Bertuzzi to Eaves and Williams, the only accomplishment made by Detroit is to limit the ice time of Ville Leino and send Abdelkader down to Grand Rapids. Abdelkader is a better and more effective player than Bertuzzi right now, no ifs ands or buts. Watching any of the Wings games last year (with Abdelkader in the lineup) will tell you that.

If true, this is a poor move by Detroit, who has still yet to replace Hossa as well by the way.

Strange moves coming from Detroit this off-season for once.

puzzling moves aside, Detroit still remains up there at the top when it comes to talent, yeah Hudler hurts, but am certain they can bring up another diamond in the rough their scouting staff has found to plug the hole. They arguably must have the deepest farm system in the league right now, and I only base that on the fact they don't need to rush their kids to the NHL, they can leave them until they are 24 or 25, then they can come up and dominate the big league.

They lost Hudler *and* Hossa. And Lidstrom is another year older (his production definitely tailed off last year). This could be a bit of a re-tool year for Detroit. I don't think they're close to the President's Trophy this year.

I really thought Abdelkader would be full time this season but with the recent signings lately, it doesn't seem so. There were much better choices for the Red Wings than Bert but I guess they know better

Wow, so he lost his spot?? That's a really silly move on Detroit's part, they should be thinking of their future. Very odd move.

Hudler had a career year this past season, but he'd never achieved that before. Is it because Detroit had some injuries and saw more playing time? Or is it because he's a part of a run and gun top 9 that can fire at will?

If Hudler's loss represents problems for Detroit, I would assume they're in for a rough year. If they can get Bertuzzi under contract, there's no reason he can't duplicate his season last year - or better if he assumes a top 6 role. He'll be another Holdstrom for the Wings..as if having one isn't good enough.

That said, I definitely see some of the shine coming off the Wings. Rafalski and Lidstrom both got the cacka kicked out of them in the playoffs. Their goaltending will always be questioned - fairly or unfairly. No President's Trophy this year I don't think. Make way for the Hawks.
