You think? If it wasn't for Fisher's salary, I think I would prefer Koivu at that salary to the Kovy signing...then again, chances are slim we would've been able to get him for the same deal.

3.25 is alot for a player who's half the player he was in his prime. and his prime wasnt even that good.

he's a great person though, I'll say that much.

Pretty good numbers last year considering the injury.  Before the sens came along, Koivu was my favourite player so I guess I'm biased but I think 3.25 for a 2nd line center is pretty good.  Would have been anouther nice influence on Spezz....but such is life, we've got our own problems to deal with now...

I think the money is just right. I was expecting more around the $4 million mark. Koivu is still a good player.

Could be because of another Finnish star, Teemu Selanne. Teemu is a class act all the way. I know because I was a season ticket holder of the late lamented Winnipeg Jets.

Maybe Saku Koivu can be what they had hoped Brenden Morrison would be last year?

I like this deal for Anaheim. Normally a one year deal costs a team more, not less.

Our 2nd line center makes $4.2M and averages fewer points. He does have a hot g/f though.

Funny, I was listening to 990 earlier today (Montreal) and they had PJ Stock talking about his conversation with Saku. He said that the only advice he could give an NHLer (and the advice I think he gave Saku) is in your last year or nearing the end of your career, make sure you and your family are happy with your decision. It was pretty obvious that his advice was (would have been?) for Koivu to take less money to remain in Montreal.

Wow, this thread was started less than 2 hours after I heard that interview (which I believe was live). I guess PJ doesn't hold much sway.

I think 3.25 is an excellent deal for koivu, especially because of a 1 year term .... he never played for another team so you can expect a little bit of a frenzy out of him ...

Especially with Pronger and Beauchemin both gone the Ducks are getting smaller and less nasty.
