He's great at other things so I really am not bashing Mike at all. Just that if Kovalev plays on the 2nd line he will not get nearly as many points (unless the PP really clicks). It would be close.

Depends, but he can do a lot on his own. On the PP alone, I think he will have close to 40 points with Spezza, Alfi, Karlsson, Campoli, Kuba, who ever is with him, that might be an absolute beast of a PP.

The other way to look at it is that he may be the one that can open things up for Fisher - perhaps creating the room for Fish to get a few steps closer in before unleashing that poorly-aimed rifle of a wrist-shot.

(not saying that's the way I'd do it, just throwing it out there)

EDIT: and that Fisher may be the one to get in there quickly to dig for the puck on shoot-ins, getting it to Kovalev so he can work his magic.

I love that picture of Tucker eating the ice after he attempted to boar Phillips. Chris got the better of that deal, Tucker ended up upside-down with his face planted right in the ice, and he also received a penalty on the play. They had a poster of that picture at the SensPlex with text describing the event. Unfortunately I can't seem to google for it now.

Here's a thought. One way to combat Burke's goonery is to have the best PP in the East. With Karlsson, Campoli and Shannon (I really like him on the point) and now with Kovalev we just might have that now.

Yup, you have 3 guys who can dish and shoot up front, 2 guys on the point with cannon's who can pass Good luck with that Toronto. Take all the penalties you want.

I briefly mentioned this earlier, but what if we keep both Heatley and Kovalev? In that case I'd have no problem putting Kovalev on the second line. I still think that Kovalev could really thrive with Spezza/Alfredsson, maybe even have a career year. But if we have two game breakers then we would be very, very tough to play against.

Only problem (other than getting around the egos) would be cap issues. Even without J. Smith, there is only $600K left for injuries, call-ups, etc. From what I recall, Murray prefers to have around $1.5M

Losing Smith + Auld + Schubert, and re-signing Elliott for about $1 mil, would open up some space. Bring us to about $1.5 mil under the cap, by my estimate.

Nice to dream, but I can't not see a Heatley deal happening in the near future.

Foligno - Fisher - Kovalev

I love Shannon - probably one of my favourite players - but that is sick.

I wish SJ would give us Marleau for Heatley - or Clowe and Vlasic (ha ha). That would make the transition complete. From Dung to good.

The broom I'm OK with, but the carrot? I guess it depends on the carrot's cap hit.

Its true though. The guy I want to see beside Kovy is Regin. I think that may very well be a match made in Heaven.

IF good Alexei shows up, then this is good news. But when you spend ten million dollars on a player, the word IF should be nowhere to be found.

I'll hold off on my judgment until the end of next season, but I'm not so confident.
