Sony and Microsoft will do fine. I don't really view the Wii as competition for either the Xbox or the PS3 just because it's very different.

I haven't even tried yet. I'll wait until after the holiday shopping season ramps up then we'll see. If I can't sell them and at least make my money back, I'll just return them and get a refund.
Great system though so far. I got Nintendo Land (packaged with the console), Super Mario Land, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Just Dance 4 (I swear to god, this is for my daughter!), and Scribblenauts (which is by far the game getting the most play). The system has so much potential just based on what you can do with the controller alone. It will be interesting to see how Sony and Jokesoft respond to this system. Wii U's controller is a game changer. We'll see if the other two copycat Nintendo....again.

I don't know... the idea of looking at 2 screens at the same time is turning me off.
I am not sure the publishers are gonna support this device if the general public doesn't buy it (at this time they are not and the marketing is non existant), because technically it will be outdated once sony and ms are gonna release their system.
The Wii was a game changer, weak technically but they were able to sell a Dung of systems based on marketing. But 2 years later barely any good game came out because the people who bought the system were not core gamers which means they didn't buy games consistently.

It's bigger than the DS. But point taken, you've dismissed it out of ignorance.

Your comments read like you've dismissed the Wii U already.
Marketing? Surely you jest. Wii sold a ton because it was revolutionary, as evidenced by the fact that both of their competitors had to basically copycat them to keep up. Do you honestly think the Move or Kinect get released otherwise? I doubt it. Sony and MS had to react or face losing some of their market share.
Why would you be looking at 2 screens at once? It's an either or thing for the most part. The screen is a great feature which allows you to play certain games with just the controller (Super Mario), among other things. Sony and/or MS will have to adapt to the new advancements Nintendo has made with it's controller. That's just the way technology works.
To suggest that the Wii U is not selling is ignoring facts. Because there are still some in stores is a reflection that Nintendo was better prepared for the launch than they were with Wii. Did you see the lines on launch day? Wii U had double the amount of pre-orders than the original, and they have better third-party support than they did with Wii. On top of that, it's a reasonable price ($175 for a controller notwithstanding), which almost certainly will be cheaper than the PS4 or the Xbox 720 (or whatever that will be called), perhaps by 1/2.
PS3 will eventually pass Wii in terms of sales, but as it stands the Wii is the better seller. That many gamers (hardcore or not) cannot be wrong. Say what you will about hardcore gamers (what does that even mean???), but Nintendo has a niche that PS/Xbox can not, nor will they ever touch. Am I saying the Wii is better than the PS3? No, it's different. But I don't see Nintendo scrambling to react to ANYTHING that Sony or MS is doing with their consoles.

Lots of wrong in this post, let me explain you why:
1/ When I said looking at 2 screens at once, I was talking about the games where you face your controller in front of the TV. There are a lot of those announced, I'm not gonna list them here. And when you are not doing so, I am not going to look at the TV and the controller screen back and forth, that's just not interesting me but it's just an opinion.
2/ The Wii U won't sell even close to the Wii. They are selling to hardcore gamers who knew the console was coming. Anyone I know who are casual gamers (i.e. only play when family is around) knew what was the Wii, none of those people know what the WiiU is.
3/ Better 3rd party supports? LOL 90% of those games already exist on ps3 and xbox 360 so the reason why they are on the WIi U is because it is so cheap to port for 3rd party publishers. Now tell me hoe many WiiU games are announced?
4/ I like that my games have nice graphics and HD sound (Metal Gear, Elder Scrolls, Uncharted, Biochock etc) and the Wii U is barely more powerful than the 360. So in the next 5 years I won't see much of an evolution. It's not even compatible with y of DPII, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD! I mean seriously???
I am not a graphic whore (I still play ps2 games), but I wanna see games evolve technically.
5/ Wii owners DO NOT buy games. It is a fact. Check the top 10 best selling wii games of all time and tell me how many of those were sold in the past 2 years (not a lot), and how many of them were 3rd party games? The industry is not just about selling game consoles, it's about making 3rd party publishers survive. Sony and MS are helping the industry survive adn that's why they will always get more games than Nintendo.
Just check this list and see how many Mario do you see in there:

Why do you think Nintendo stocks have went from 70 ish dollars to 15? And they are selling a loooot of DS. The Wii came out, everybody bought it. They played 6 months, 1 year and the console was put in the garage. Ask SpezD Kinect and the PS move are nice, but seriously, that's not why they sell ps3 and x360.
I know a lot about video game industry, I'm not saying this because I am hating or anything. Just read some analysts and ask them how many think the Wii U is gonna last long.
Oh, and I am a big Zelda and Metroid fan, but for 2 games I rent a friend's system and that's enough for me.
There's a reason why Nintendo stocks are 15$ today, they were around 70 when the Wii came out...

Of course those are apples to orchards comparisons. Sony has so much more than just gaming. That said, both companies rely strongly on people's entertainment budgets, and people's disposable income has not been great for a decade.

Top selling games in 2012. 2 Wii games in the top 20. For a system that has 20 more million consoles sales than the other 2, do you really think the Will is selling games? Just based on this chart, 10% of x360 and ps3 owners bought COD the past month, while 2-3% wii owners bought Just Dance 3 which was the best selling game...
