Sony and Microsoft will do fine. I don't really view the Wii as competition for either the Xbox or the PS3 just because it's very different.

No doubt. They are definitely marketed towards a different audience. I was remarking more in terms of the effect the original Wii had on Xbox360 (Kinect) and PS3 (Move). Those things aren't produced if not for the market Nintendo practically build with the Wii.

I haven't even tried yet. I'll wait until after the holiday shopping season ramps up then we'll see. If I can't sell them and at least make my money back, I'll just return them and get a refund.

Great system though so far. I got Nintendo Land (packaged with the console), Super Mario Land, Tank! Tank! Tank!, Just Dance 4 (I swear to god, this is for my daughter!), and Scribblenauts (which is by far the game getting the most play). The system has so much potential just based on what you can do with the controller alone. It will be interesting to see how Sony and Jokesoft respond to this system. Wii U's controller is a game changer. We'll see if the other two copycat Nintendo....again.

I don't know... the idea of looking at 2 screens at the same time is turning me off.

I am not sure the publishers are gonna support this device if the general public doesn't buy it (at this time they are not and the marketing is non existant), because technically it will be outdated once sony and ms are gonna release their system.

The Wii was a game changer, weak technically but they were able to sell a Dung of systems based on marketing. But 2 years later barely any good game came out because the people who bought the system were not core gamers which means they didn't buy games consistently.

Your comments read like you've dismissed the Wii U already.

Marketing? Surely you jest. Wii sold a ton because it was revolutionary, as evidenced by the fact that both of their competitors had to basically copycat them to keep up. Do you honestly think the Move or Kinect get released otherwise? I doubt it. Sony and MS had to react or face losing some of their market share.

Why would you be looking at 2 screens at once? It's an either or thing for the most part. The screen is a great feature which allows you to play certain games with just the controller (Super Mario), among other things. Sony and/or MS will have to adapt to the new advancements Nintendo has made with it's controller. That's just the way technology works.

To suggest that the Wii U is not selling is ignoring facts. Because there are still some in stores is a reflection that Nintendo was better prepared for the launch than they were with Wii. Did you see the lines on launch day? Wii U had double the amount of pre-orders than the original, and they have better third-party support than they did with Wii. On top of that, it's a reasonable price ($175 for a controller notwithstanding), which almost certainly will be cheaper than the PS4 or the Xbox 720 (or whatever that will be called), perhaps by 1/2.

PS3 will eventually pass Wii in terms of sales, but as it stands the Wii is the better seller. That many gamers (hardcore or not) cannot be wrong. Say what you will about hardcore gamers (what does that even mean???), but Nintendo has a niche that PS/Xbox can not, nor will they ever touch. Am I saying the Wii is better than the PS3? No, it's different. But I don't see Nintendo scrambling to react to ANYTHING that Sony or MS is doing with their consoles.

I've dismissed the Wii U already. If I wanna play a console video game, I am not playing with motion controls or a gargantuan, complex controller like the Wii U has. Why do I want to play with a DS-like controller when I am also playing on a big screen? Too much Dung going on at once.

It's bigger than the DS. But point taken, you've dismissed it out of ignorance.

Wow, that's even worse. Let me just play a game with an iPad while I watch the big screen.

Lots of wrong in this post, let me explain you why:

1/ When I said looking at 2 screens at once, I was talking about the games where you face your controller in front of the TV. There are a lot of those announced, I'm not gonna list them here. And when you are not doing so, I am not going to look at the TV and the controller screen back and forth, that's just not interesting me but it's just an opinion.

2/ The Wii U won't sell even close to the Wii. They are selling to hardcore gamers who knew the console was coming. Anyone I know who are casual gamers (i.e. only play when family is around) knew what was the Wii, none of those people know what the WiiU is.

3/ Better 3rd party supports? LOL 90% of those games already exist on ps3 and xbox 360 so the reason why they are on the WIi U is because it is so cheap to port for 3rd party publishers. Now tell me hoe many WiiU games are announced?

4/ I like that my games have nice graphics and HD sound (Metal Gear, Elder Scrolls, Uncharted, Biochock etc) and the Wii U is barely more powerful than the 360. So in the next 5 years I won't see much of an evolution. It's not even compatible with y of DPII, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD! I mean seriously???
I am not a graphic whore (I still play ps2 games), but I wanna see games evolve technically.

5/ Wii owners DO NOT buy games. It is a fact. Check the top 10 best selling wii games of all time and tell me how many of those were sold in the past 2 years (not a lot), and how many of them were 3rd party games? The industry is not just about selling game consoles, it's about making 3rd party publishers survive. Sony and MS are helping the industry survive adn that's why they will always get more games than Nintendo.
Just check this list and see how many Mario do you see in there:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_Wii_video_games
Why do you think Nintendo stocks have went from 70 ish dollars to 15? And they are selling a loooot of DS. The Wii came out, everybody bought it. They played 6 months, 1 year and the console was put in the garage. Ask SpezD Laugh1 Kinect and the PS move are nice, but seriously, that's not why they sell ps3 and x360.

I know a lot about video game industry, I'm not saying this because I am hating or anything. Just read some analysts and ask them how many think the Wii U is gonna last long.

Oh, and I am a big Zelda and Metroid fan, but for 2 games I rent a friend's system and that's enough for me.
There's a reason why Nintendo stocks are 15$ today, they were around 70 when the Wii came out...

Read some analysts? You're Dung me right? I'm a grown man. I don't know any video game analysts.

Wii Gamers don't buy games? I guess the 842+ million Wii games sold don't count. (I can go on Wikipedia too) FYI: That's nearly 250 million more than PS3, and more than Xbox 360.

"They played 6 months, 1 year and the console was put in the garage." This comment is ridiculous. I won't even bother to argue it, because you pulled it from your rectum. Just how many Wii scrappers do you know relative to the number of Wii owners.

The Wii (and quite possibly the Wii U) were/are game changers, and since you didn't argue my point about the other two copycatting with Move/Kinect, I will assume you agree.

I said better 3rd party support than they did with Wii. True story.

Judging by Wikipedia, there are around 60 titles announced for Wii U, with over 20 at launch. More than Wii or PS3 at launch. What is your point here?

I agree, that Wii U won't sell as Wii in all probability, just as the PS3 sales lags WAY behind PSX and PS2 sales. I don't quite know what you are getting at with this comment.

Graphics and Technical ability? I'll take a classic with replay value over eye candy. Some of my favorite games of all time are on NES, SNES, and PSX. Garbage by today's graphics standards, but still immensely enjoyable to play. I'm not saying new games are worse than the classics (my favorite series is Uncharted), but a game like Wii Sports, I can still play bowling and enjoy it, long long after the thrill of a game like Heavy Rain (first game that came to mind) has worn off.

These arguments you are making were made when the Wii came out. Nintendo did just fine. They'll do just fine again. They practically inventing the home gaming industry.

Obviously, the Wii U isn't for you. That's fine. You want a system that provides what YOU want. But don't kid yourself, there is a market for the Wii U. A big one. I'm not a Nintendo apologist. I've owned every system out there, as my family owned a Microplay video games back in the mid 90's. At one point I had (on one TV no less) a NES, SNES, PSX, 3DO, Sega Genesis, and Sega CD, with several hundred games.

Really? Half the time I play games with the sound off. It's never EVER crossed my mind to not play/buy a game because I couldn't get the full HD/DOLBY/THX/WHATEVER sound experience. Not once.

You take your gaming for serious don't you!?

By the way, I may not know much about the gaming industry, but I know how to type in finance.yahoo.com. Over the past 5 years, both Nintendo and Sony are down about 80%. Over the last 2, Nintendo is down 50% to Sony's 70%. Over the last 12 months, Nintendo is down 10% and Sony almost 40%.

Of course those are apples to orchards comparisons. Sony has so much more than just gaming. That said, both companies rely strongly on people's entertainment budgets, and people's disposable income has not been great for a decade.

Sony's gaming is what's keeping them alive...

Panasonic, Sharp, Sony... any TV companies not named Samsung is struggling nowadays.

Seriously Hemlock...I don't have time to waste arguing every single point you are making. The wii, like I said, was a game changer, I agreed. The problem is only Nintendo sold games on that system. Seriously, read the link that I posted. there's maybe 2 games in the top 30 that are 3rd party games and they sell like 2-3 million. Compare that with the sales of a game like GTA 4, Madden or Call of Duty and tell me on what console do you think EA Sports, Activion or Rockstar are gonna invest? I'm trying to predict the next 5 years here not the launch of the WiiU (which I still think is a disaster, only nintendo gamers will buy it), because I'm not gonna buy a WiiU just to let it collect dust in a year.
I take my gaming for serious? who is using words like rectum here? I wonder sometimes how old you are...
I bought am HDTV and sound system to watch movies in 1080p and get sound in TrueHD as well as play my games the same way because I value what game developpers do to enhance the experience. Playing games with no sound? No comment Puking2
NOTHING on the WiiU improves mine. A screen on the controller? REALLY?? Like I said, 90% of the games are already on my ps3.
I don't see a single reason to play the WiiU today. End of story.

Oh and spare me the wii sold way more games than X360 and PS3... Wii sports and Wii kinect etc were given for free with Kinect or the console and a lot more given free with the additional controller... that's like more than 100 million games already.

Top selling games in 2012. 2 Wii games in the top 20. For a system that has 20 more million consoles sales than the other 2, do you really think the Will is selling games? Just based on this chart, 10% of x360 and ps3 owners bought COD the past month, while 2-3% wii owners bought Just Dance 3 which was the best selling game...

Finally got NHL13 for my kid. Was at FS earlier today and they had the big sign for the Boxing Week sale -- $39.99. But right under the (last remaining) copy of NHL13 for the PS3 they had a tag saying $19.99. Got the clerk quickly and asked and he said, sure, I'll ring it through. It came up as $69.99 (apparently the Boxing Week sale was over?) but he still sold it to me for $19.99. Sweet.
