Scrolling ad bar at the top...

Well, I'm up to 2 gig RAM now (graphics card only has 128MB, but that should be enough).

The scrolling ads are still scrolling -- seems that AdBlock is confused.

The half-gig VM for Firefox is getting a little annoying. I do leave it on all the time, though, and there's got to be a memory leak somewhere. Probably the AcroRead plugin, or perhaps Flash.

The CPU is up to 99% for Firefox even now, just after a restart and with only 90MB in used memory (78MB VM). This is horrible for me.

That scrolling script may be causing issues...

Good thing you're not running Safari... that sucker regularly chews up 400-500MB on my system... mind you, I usually have 13-15 tabs open at a time... heh heh.

Well, AdBlock didn't seem to do much, so I right-clicked to disable a bunch of the images (in the scrolling ads). It didn't help, the CPU is at 100% with three GMHockey tabs open. And I think I went a little overboard in blocking images because now the "Quote" button is missing (as well as a few others).

AdBlock should be able to block the script if you want to test it out...

Look for the script:

"https://illiweb.com/fa/js_03/jquery/ticker/ticker.js"

See if that makes any difference for you.

OK, I managed to get the "Quote" and other buttons back. CPI is at 100% with just one GMHockey tab open.

Try blocking the script. That should do it.

I blocked JavaScript and the CPU is back to 2-4%.

Hmm, I re-enabled JS and blocked the ticker script. It's still ticking.

Dammit, I don't think I can block that script using AdBlock, but leave the ads alone. If I disable AdBlock for this domain then my preferences blacking the ticker script are not being used. So I can either disable ads on this site or disable JS altogether.

I have no choice but to disable ads until this is resolved.

You can disable just that script... but it will stop the ad banner and no ads will show. To this with AdBlock, click the AdBlock stop sign on the top right of your browser, this will pull up a window at the bottom listing all the blockable objects by type... scroll until you see the script I listed above. Here's a screen shot of how it would look after you blocked it:



This will tell you if it's that specific script that's sending your system to a tail spin. If it is, maybe the site admins can see if there's a better script.
