Add to that the fact that they both had many playoffs experience, Jbo has none, + the cap is going down next year. I say Not gonna happen.

true and true on both your points, never even thought about the cap going down either, who knows, maybe he will take a bit of a cut to go to a team like detroit in order to win a cup (would have to be a big cut on that one). Florida is a vastly improving team though, it might be in his own best interest to stick around a bit.

Biggest thing the Sens have to do is trim the fat still. Two straight years of under achieving. Two straight years where, after signing brand new contracts, the "core" players production has gone down.

Murray does not have an easy job, haha. Where to starts?!

From a patient guy that I am, I would suggest not to sign any UFA at all. I mean what's the point really when you don't even have the cap? As good as Chicago is, they will lose one of Seabrook, Keith or Barker because of that Campbell signing, imagine if Wiercioch and Karlsson become as good, and we have to lose one of them because we signed Bouwmeester to a 6 year deal...
The cup is not coming next year, so IMHO, a 7M Jbo for 2009-2010 is a waste of money to resign Foligno, Shannon, Volchenkov...

Geez Marakh, you keep raving about the d-men in Chicago...why don't you just become a Blackhawks fan?

ugh, yeah I see your leverage point, signing big ticket UFA's leads to losing the talent from within, and Detroit didn't win their cups by bringing in big ticket UFA's.

One guy I would love to sign is Steve Sullivan...man that guy is fantastic. He would add depth to our primary and secondary scoring in ways we couldn't even imagine.

Yep. This is basically what it'll shake down to I think.

Boy, we could use buying Scott Neidermayer for 2 years at 7 million per year. That would be grand (but it's not happening obviously).

Bouwmeester is no longer the prize of the UFA D-men.

It's fully shifted to Neidermayer.

Bass Destruction wrote:Have heard many people on these boards and hockeybuzz talk up Kurtis Foster, but I never knew much about him except that he was big, and from Carp. So I decided to look him up and have decided I would love for him to be on this team, and he's a guy that Murray would go for too.

He won the AHL Man of the Year award in 04, a designation Denis Hamel won in 08. Another player to have won it is Matt Carkner in 07 as a member of the Baby-Pens, and the next season, he was part of our organization. Murray has let it be knownst that he is after good character guys, and I believe Kurtis Foster fits that profile.

He also apparently has a rocket of a right-handed shot, which could be good on our blue line. After the above injury, he came back to finish the season with 6 points in 10 games, 5 of which he amassed in his final 3 games.

I've always wanted him here too, he's big and he's got a wicked shot as well as some offensive skills. This is the kind of Ottawa boy that Murray should be going after. How much is he looking for and is he unrestricted this year?

The only thing I would worry about is if he is completely healed from his severely busted leg.

We could probably hang onto Comrie too at a very reduced rate, I can't see him getting more than $2Million (MAX). This could be a great signing for us, in the hopes that he is 100% healthy by training camp. I would try to sign him to 1.75 x 2, it would also give him the chance to get his game back and get a larger contract from another team at the end of his contract.

Minny gave him a contract in such good faith when he hurt his leg. For him to leave doesn't seem right to be honest.

But I would LOVE to have him here.

You will get equal or more production from a guy like Regin, while at the same time your developing the kid at a fraction of the cost. (no matter that contract)

Comrie is a waste of a roster spot at any price.

I don't see any reason for Regin not to have a roster spot next season.

Thats exactly why you dont sign Comrie. Regin will be making what? 600K? Prob get 35-40 points out of him, maybe 15 goals, in a 3rd line role. At the same time getting tons of expierence and perhaps surprising some people and earning a real shot on the 2nd or perhaps 1st line, depening on who is still here.

That kind of opportunity will have to be earned, but he needs to be given a real shot at playing in the NHL on the 3rd and 4th line. You cant just give someone the number 1 spot and expect a full and consistant effort *cough Spezza* *cough handed to him*

To be fair, Detroit has been pretty active on the UFA market. They brought in Rafalski two off-seasons ago and Hossa last off-season.

That said, I'm a huge fan of giving out big UFA contracts.

I think Coaching and a good system to develop chemistry is more important thatn Bouwmeester to be honest. DOn't get me wrong, Jbo would look sexy on a Sens uniform, but seeing that Boston team, I don't think they have that much superstars, just hard working guys that have good chemistry, and a coach who knows exactly what kind of players he has and what they are capable of. It's the same thing happening in Chicago and San Jose, all of a sudden guys starting to produce carreer high numbers.
