Caps in 6, their only big deterrant is Theodore, however, their offense will prove just too great for the Rangers, another first round exit for Redden again.

Redden has never missed the playoffs. Though he will wish he had by the time this one is over.

Washington in 5. Lundqvist steals one, but that's it. Avery brings a new level of shame to the league by the 2nd period of game 2.

Jose Theodore Vs Henrik Lundqvist.

Washington has, essentially, the same set of scorers they had in last year's playoffs. Their team defense wasn't good enough then...and it can be argued it isn't any better this year.

But can the Rangers score in the first place? Theodore just has to be okay, Lundqvist has to be unreal.

I actually think it's impossible for the Rangers to win this series (prove me wrong Rangers!).

IMHO much depends on whether the Caps and Rangers split the opening games.

And ESPN's Pierre Lebrun addresses your questions directly...

It must be true that opposites attract because the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers found each other in the first round of the playoffs. It's Alex Ovechkin and the Caps' high-powered offense versus Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers' air-tight defense.

The numbers don't lie. The run-and-gun Caps are third in the NHL in goals per game, but a leaky 19th in goals against. The squeeze-your-stick-tight Rangers are 28th in offense, but a stingy sixth in goals against.

The Lundqvist/Theodore factor could single-handedly make this an interesting series.
