On paper, this shouldn't be close.

And as we know, games are played not on paper, but on ice...
Wink

True. But still, on ice this shouldn't be close either.

True, and that's why hockey is the best sport in the world.

And this one IS close so far...wow.

Is this the night we can finally stick a fork into the Buffalo?

You predicted a 2-0 snoozer. You just picked the wrong side.

What snoozer? Hossa just scored a brilliant goal.

The Sabres have a mountain to climb as the Wings fire another cruise missile signed "Hossa".

And Buffalo comes back with a gutsy goal by Gaustad.

It ain't over yet...

Two minutes left and time running out...Miller out for a sixth skater...but the Wings are controlling the game now.

Amazingly, some Sabres fans have left the arena...bad.

And it is over...

Red Wings are just a cut above the Sabres IMO. Better in every facet of the game barring goaltending, so Miller would have to produce some kind of superhuman effort for the Sabres to pull out a victory.

As I suspected, Wings prevailed by 3.

Don't forget the last was an empty netter...so it goes.

As you said before, the Red Wings are the far superior team.

For Buffalo, it was going to be, and was, 'The Charge of the Light Brigade'...a bold flurry against hopeless odds.

What was most interesting to watch, was seeing if and how the Sabres would play knowing that this was possibly their last chance to stay in the playoff hunt. In a sense, this game was a microcosm for their season. Brilliant goaltender in Miller; some good defensemen, but not enough; talented forwards, but not enough; some team toughness, but not enough. Lindy Ruff, but not enough.

That said, after tonight's failure by the Habs, nothing is settled.

Which means more thrilling games like this one...yet to come.

"Mr Holland's Opus" is still being written...
