There's a reason I have the handle Cap'n Clutch. How can anyone deny Alfie is Clutch. He may not be the first Euro Captain to win a Cup but he is the first Euro Captain to score the OT winner that made him the first Euro Captain to get to the Finals.

I could care less where he's from or that he's not from North America. I would like to see Alfie win a cup just because he's Alfie.

He's regarded here as Brindamour is regarded in Raleigh

It would be a miracle if they made it in because there are just too many things that would have to go right.

But at least if they don't make it, we know that going into next year they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Good point about the Euro thing. It is still fact though. Regardless I think Alfie is Clutch for more than just scoring the OT winner to get them to the finals. He took his lumps for many playoff years but he's really shown he's the man in Ottawa.

I can't nor do I want to imagine Alfie not winning a Cup before he retires. We have to believe that we will win it in the next 3-4 years.

Well, if Alfie and the boys can sneak in the back door this year...it will at least be worth the price of admission to watch them give it their best.

Were it left entirely on Alfredsson's tenacity and intensity, then Ottawa would win out 90% of remaining games and easily slide into 8th.

Alfie hsa no impact on other teams, so we will be at the mercy of the other teams misfortunes. Scared

1. Do you really expect another 11 (12?) point night by a hastily-assembled line of veterans?
2. If not for Little's brain-fart double-minor, who knows what may have happened.
3. Lehtonen was Let-em-in last night. Even if you take out the two PP goals on Little's penalties, that was worthy of a Tortorella rant.

and, most importantly:

4. The Habs could have lost that game but may not realize it. This was not a hard-fought win against a tough opponent, which reinforces the notion that you have to compete for 60 minutes, play a disciplined but hard game, and still hope for a break or two to go your way. They could easily backslide after this one.

Now, where's that half-full glass smiley?

I agree 100%. They are not miraculously cured of their miseries, wait until their next game, we'll see what happens then.

I didn't watch much of the game, but I did see who their opponent was, and they, like the Habs, are in a horrible way right now, one of the team's had to win that game. Unfortunately it was the wrong one.

It was almost like they didn't want to win. Even the Healthy Scratches mentioned it. And the way Lehtonen was playing, if they were really trying to win he should have been out after 2 or sooner.

Thrashers were officially eliminated after losing to the Habs the other night.

Thrashers, Bolts, Isles are out.

Nine games left for the Senators, and nine points to make up on Montreal. All they can do is play to win, and hope.

Well boys, it was fun while it lasted. I just can't see anything good coming from last night's loss, we're really out of it now. Even if we win the last 9 games, our chances of getting in are at 56.6%...every team ahead of us has to lose. I'm just going to enjoy the last nine games of the season, and look forward to a strong 09-10 season.

Thanks for the late push boys, it was just too little too late. We can thank Murray for firing another coach too late in the season.

well things will be looking good for next year I am hoping, will be awaiting the draft and seeing how Bryan Murray does with the picks we have and hopefully will be welcoming MPS into the fold (however, as we keep rising in the standings, am thinking that Murray is going to miss out on MPS.

He could alway try to swing a trade to move up in the draft.

Clutch, would you not agree the Sens need more 'Alfies'? They aren't necessarily found at the top of the draft tree...

Murray is supposed to have a pretty good track record at this drafting thing, so will be interesting to see what happens July 1st, will be dragging a tv outside as I am bbqing and tapping the keg (yeah okay, no keg, but bbqing)

There is only one Alfie.

Teams often find late round gems, but it's not really a draft strategy. Usually, teams just luck out. Maybe what you can do is take "boom or bust" picks in the lower rounds and hope that a few boom, but even then I'm not sure Alfie qualified as that, because IIRC he was really drafted as an Axelsson-esque checking line player.

I don't think teams go into the draft and say "this year, our strategy will be to find a franchise player in the lower rounds."

Otherwise, I'd trade all our picks for third rounders and grab us some Lidstroms.

Finding late round gems has been key to the Detroit Red Wings' draft strategy for years.

I still wouldn't say it's a strategy. They've found quite a few, granted, but I still don't think it's as simple as "let's find some late round gems."

If that's all it took, why would anyone deal a draft pick? Why wouldn't every team make it their "strategy"?

When the Red Wings picked Datsyuk and Zetterberg, they didn't know they'd be 1/10th as good as they are now. They lucked out, and had some good players on the team to help develop them, like Yzerman.
