Thanks for the link. I hardly every look at the Sun right now because of the dry spell in Hockey stories.

I figure someone may want Luke in their fold, but I always thought he'd stay with the Sens org as a Defensive coach or something of that ilk... mmm, time will tell I suppose.

Join us...as a coach Luke, but as a player, we're good right now.

My husband asked me to post this. He knows Luke, and wants to make sure people know that his original plan last year was to be a player/coach. He didn't plan on playing 70+ games last year it just turned out that way.

My husband thinks he would be a good addition to Ottawa to play as a 7th or 8th D-man and coach. Put him in once a week or in back to back situations and he'll fair ok. Put him in every game and you're asking for trouble near the end of the season.

I was thinking a player/coach role where he would play 25 games would be fine, more than that and as you say, we'd be looking for trouble.

Exactly. Luke is a vet and all the experience and other intangibles that he brings are truly invaluable and are definitely assets. He could play the occasional game or back to back game, but last year was a blatant reminder that he cannot be played or counted on to play 70+ games as, not to knock him for his age, but the game has certainly picked up since he was in his 20's...

I would love to have him in Ottawa and he could be a great coach to our up and coming D core and current roster guys as well.

God I hate having to act like his secretary...I have to try to understand his horrible spelling and deal with 2 kids at the same time.

"NHL teams are also moving to more coaches. It's the one area that they can spend without having to count against the cap. Well, coaching and scouting. Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign him to stay in Ottawa and work with the players who don't make the road trips, or go down to Bingo two or three times a month to work with the kids down there. I still think if you put a fresh (only played 10 or so games) Luke Richardson into the roster near the end of last year it's a different outcome than the one we saw. Not a team outcome but his ability to play at the nighest level in the world gets worn down after 70 games throughout the year.

I can buy into that large. I would love to have Luke as a coach and mentor -especially with the talent we have coming up!

PS....Dawg's wife's favourite team is the NJ Devils? Suspect

I'd love to see Richardson stay on in a coaching/role player capacity. He can teach some things to the young guys, help them understand how things work in the NHL, he can help fill in any temporary injuries. Plus, he's a super nice guy.

Meh...I like Neiler a lot, but if he does get gassed, I'm pretty sure there are guys in the system you'll learn to love.

Has Neiler worn out his welcome or is just a case of trade value right now / this season?

I can pretty much assure you Neil is not being shopped and will sign an extension before the end of this season.
