I've set the bar higher than that. And by higher, I mean lower. As in a higher draft pick.

Checking the standings, we're tied for 4th worst in the league.
Man, we really have to hope that Tampa gets on a winning streak, or not letting them make an offer-sheet to Meszaros is going to haunt me for a long time.
EDIT: The concern now becomes a delusional owner trying to turn the season around.
How about trying to move Spezza to Atlanta for White and their first. My only worry is that both teams would get better and rather than having 2 top 5 picks we'd wind up with two picks in the 8-12 range.hemlock wrote:504Heater wrote:Wow. We suck so large it isn't even a joke anymore.
I can't believe we're not getting shut out. I guess that's the big news.
On a more positive note, we are inching closer to Hedman. I gone from getting angry about losses, to not caring, to now where I want them to lose. We ought to trade some help to Tampa to assure we finish lower.

I was on board before tonight. Getting bombed tonight should help the cause though. :D
Melnyk needs to extract his head from his rectum if he thinks there is a fix this season for this team.

I concur. We like to have scape-goats, but this is a team-wide phenomenon.
I really don't want to see younger assets dealt for older ones.

Exactly. I'd rather deal in the off-season when picks are (relatively) set. Dealing Spezza for more mid-ranged picks is poor asset management.
My proposal remains: Spezza + Lee + SJ 1st (add Vermette now, for all I care) for Bogosian, Atl's 1st and some forward.
The reason I like the White and ATLs 1st for Spezza is that we would have 3 1st rounders in a ridiculous draft, which instantly rebuilds our prospect pool. We get cap space which can used to go after an Andy MacDonald in the summer. We would be much more balanced down the middle with our top 3 centres making what Spezza and Fisher make now.asq2 wrote:From a Devils perspective, you have to love how Parise is developing. If you could suck either of those two, along with their 1st, I would be amazed and thrilled.Acrobat wrote:Maybe not now, but it's coming, I'm sure of it. There is no way he can afford to sit by and watch this unfold - his job security is somewhat suspect at this point, I would guess.
I like the idea of trading him to Atlanta - we need Bogosian (and the pick); if we could get Little then we would be in even better shape
IIRC - Little is projected to be a #1 centre in a year or two, but still needs to develop; that's about the time-line we need.
