Why oh why does Spezza get all goofy during interviews. I can't stand it. He starts to giggle and laugh and I'm just waiting for a "snort" to squeak out one of these days. I don't know why it bugs me so much, but it does. He never comes across like he's taking it seriously.

Argh...

He has earned his nickname of Giggles. At least I haven't heard anyone calling him The Flamingo yet this year.

I think people read into this too much. It could be as simple as a nervous habit. Some people aren't comfortable in front of a camera or speaking in public. Let his play on the ice do all the talking.

exactly... I could care less what he says to the media, or what he looks like... As long as he produces and plays well... look as stupid as you want!

He wasn't dubbed 'Flamingo' for his interviews...

That said, the nickname is an old one, pre-cup run.

I'M with Dash riprock on this one.

Spezza is most likely nervous in front of the camera more then anything else.

I can see the nerves thing... it is a funny way to show it. I agree, let his on-ice actions speak for themselves.

I have to agree with Dash and the other posters on the nervous thing.
From personal experience, being a Communications person, I arrange and see a lot of civil servants doing interviews for the local media, and some are naturals, while others continuously play with their hair, or stroke their chins/goatees, stutter, laugh nervously, etc...

I just chalk it up to nerves, and to be honest, besides Avery, who really relishes the cameras, and on another note, I want my players to be hockey players: tough, skilled, gritty and rarin' to go; not primping their hair and speaking oh so softly and eloquently. But hey, that's just me.

"There's no question" that Alfie is one of those eloquent speakers.

The only people that have really stood out to me when being interviewed were Spezza and Crosby. Spezza for his giggling and Crosby for his "but uh..." "ummm uh..." between, it seemed, every single word. Crosby's gotten a lot better at it though.

Seriously? Listen to Alfie, he says "there's no question" at least 4-5 times per interview. It's part of what makes him a god.

HA HA! I'll have to pay close attention next time he's being interviewed... that's hilarious. Now, of course, I'll notice it all the time.

There's no question.

Ian Mendes will ask something, and he starts his responses with, "Oh yeah, there's no question we....." Every time.
