He's on the decline, but his shot is a problem.

Consensus is that, in the short-term, this makes the Habs better.  For 2-3 years, probably.  And, really, Bergevin is not going to be here 3 years from now if they continued like the last few years.

For those who don't think that PK is in the top-10 among D-men, consider that he was 6th in points per game played and 5th in ice time per game, and I won't argue with Habs fans that he is not better, defensively, than Karlsson.  He only played 68 games last year so that had a lot to do with his production being down.  Sure, that still doesn't make him top-5 and he never would have won the Norris if not for Cooke, but if you only argument for deciding he is not among the top 10 is his exclusion from Team Canada then you need to re-think.  If anything, not being included on Team Canada is a *good* thing for the club he's playing for.  There is a not-insignificant chance that Weber will get injured in September.  Now wouldn't that be something.

I am not sure what this "consensus" is that you refer to regarding the winner of the Subban deal in the short term?

I think I'd agree that maybe for a year or two, Weber will slightly improve Montreal, but I'm not sold on that perspective.

Pretty much everyone I've heard on the radio (690/1200), the Team Canada brass.

Short term they got better for sure. I really disliked subban. He can eat Dung in nashville, but Montreal sure Cussed that trade up.

I think it was last minute desperation. Had they had an extra few months I'm sure they would of went for another deal.myou compare the rumoured asking price to Edmonton for this? Police should get GM of the year just for that. They may have won the trade for a few years but it will be really bad for years after that.

That was bs, I'm sure of it. The 4th + draisatl? Yeah right.

There was also some misconception earlier about what would happen if Weber retires before the contract is up. Nashville would be on the hook for a huge hit if he retires in the last couple years of his contract. They better hope he gets injured and retires early, or continues playing until he's 40.

And plus nurse and another piece.
I mean it's no suprise it fell through but I'm sure they could of gotten a better deal done.

If Subban for Hall was on the table then that's the deal they should have gone for. This team struggles with scoring. Sure, Weber will help their powerplay, but the difference between him and Subban running the point is not all that substantial.

This is two-day-old (at least news) but the Canadiens are relocating their AHL affiliate (St. John's Ice Caps) to Laval for the 2017-18 season. Wonder if this move was done to mimic Ottawa also moving their B-Sens closer.

It's been trending that way throughout the league already. LA Kings/Ontario Reign Ducks/San Diego Gulls...

True.

I remember the first time I read about the AHL team in Ontario Smile
