i mean, not really surprised but how much has this kid showed in the past two years? he's as close to a bust as you can get nowadays for a first overall. the oilers are going to be lucky if they can get anything close to a top 4 Dman/work in progress for him.

They can have Wiercioch.

Overpayment.

I'd take a $2.5 for a season flyer on Yak, if he was basically free (Wiercioch).

I would propose a puempel + 2016 2nd rounder (higher pick since we won't be making the playoffs) for Yakupov and I would say that's about right for his value right now. 1st overall pick hasn't scored more than 33 points in a season and that was 2 seasons ago.

im not sure I would. Yak seems to have bust written all over him. Not sure I want his attitude in our locker room.

The only way I would do that is to re-flip him for anything at all. Wier is walking. The oilers can offer him a contract if they wanna for nothing. I'm not sure why they would do this.
Yak doesn't seem like a guy I want in our room when we are already lacking veterans.
The only place he's gonna fit in is on a team with some solid vet presence. I don't know why but Detroit sounds like a match to me with datsyuk showing him what work ethics is.

And a fine FYP it is. Sadly, the market will drive his price a bit higher than just puempel and a 4th.

It's kind of funny, because Ray jumps on him after a pretty innocent comment, but I wonder if there's a bit of history there.

Also, he blogged on a Dung website, so it's not like it was some lofty position.

Well you listen to what those TSN analysts say when interviewed on the radio and they have a pretty low opinion on analytics being the second coming. It's kind of a joke. I'm not sure they really respect guys like yost.

Over the last 10 years, Chicago goalie Scott Darling has played for 14 different teams.

Analytics is still a work in progress and people overuse them to make blanket statements etc. but I've found that vocal naysayers don't even understand them.

It's so easy to dismiss something you don't understand and how many broadcasters have any background or understanding in mathematics/statistics? They're more likely to have bullied some nerdy kid to do their homework for them.

So it's no surprise the media is anti-analytics when most of their stuff are former players or people with a journalism background without any grasp of numbers. And they're definitely alienating fans who want to learn and understand, if only to make up their own mind.

Hmm, doesn't sound great for the Preds.  This is what Vesey wrote last monthg:

Beyond hockey, staying for my senior year has given me the opportunity to graduate from Harvard. One of the things I'm most proud about is that I'm from Boston. I come from a long line of blue-collar Bostonians.… City people — that's who we are.

If he signs with the Preds the advantage is that he can play in the post-season right away, and he burns a year of his ELC.  But he managed to wait 4 years, what's another few months.

It was all over this morning, apparently Bobby Mac broke it last night that Vesey's "people" informed Poile and the Preds that they were not intending to sign a contract and will be heading to free agency on August 15. This, after the Preds pretty much promised him NHL games, including the post-season.

Poile is pretty upset. Boston and Toronto are the likely destinations -- Boston is obvious; Toronto hired Vesey's father as a scout last summer and drafted his older brother int he 6th round. I call shenanigans (or Shannahanigans, as TGOR called it).

What a punk kid lol. Didn't even want to meet the GM face to face. He's exercising his right I guess but if NCAA wants more NHL players drafted, they need to fix this stupid loophole. Unless you're not qualified, you should never have an opportunity to be a UFA.

Anyways he'll fail just like Justin Schultz and since he'll probably go to the leafs, Diddle him

It's a funny thing, to turn down a contract for a lot of money in a good city with a good team. The only explanation is that he knows he has a contract offer coming from a team that he would rather play for.

This. The system is broken with regards to NCAA players.

yup. i can't believe they haven't already fixed this issue. it's embarrassing and really doesn't help teams hold on to their best NCAA prospects.

let's get White signed ASAP
