Late hits are just as suspendable as anything else.

I think the hit was a little late but the way they spoke, it was like a half hour late. Of course, slow mo makes it look a lot worse than it was.  As for the head, I'm not sure. He had his head down a bit then there is the size difference.

It was a late hit for sure. Greg Millen was saying it was only marginally late and that it full speed that would be evident. Then he showed it at full speed and he changed his mind right away. No big deal.

Anyway, this is the league doing whatever they can to derail the Sens playoff hopes.

According the NHL's Department of Player Safety, it was a hit to the head.  This was their tweet:

"Ottawa's Jared Cowen will have a hearing Monday morning for an illegal check to the head/interference on Florida's Jussi Jokinen."

I would only agree if the guy was injured badly and had to miss time. We have minor penalties for a reason. It's a contact sport.

Zero chance cowen gets suspended IMO. If he does, then it's a pure no hit league. I have never seen a guy suspended for a late hit that was not a headshot.

I just hate late hits, I believe it's easily the cheapest shot in hockey because there is no intent other than intent to injure. A player knows the hit is late every single time, it's never a hockey play, and the player being hit is almost never aware and a lot of the time injured. Butt-end is up there as well,

Which is BS.

The NHL won't do anything. It doesn't make sense.

But then I thought the Gryba hit was wonderful on eller and deputy dbag suspended him.

NEELY, the so called "finishing the check" is a late hit as well. Most of the time the guy on the receiving end does know it is coming but often has no way to defend himself, nonetheless.

It's never a hockey play because the puck is gone.

So this so-called "play away from the puck" people place so much importance on isn't even part of hockey?!?!?!

I haven't heard any video explanation of the hit but, is it possible he got the 3 game suspension because firstly he's a repeat offender and secondly because it was a "Blind side" hit, which is one type of hit they've decided shouldn't be in the game?

The Player Safety Department pretty much always release a video explaining suspensions, but I'm not sure if they've done this for the Cowen suspension yet?

I agree with the suspension because of how late it is. He knew it was a late hit and IMO the intent was there.

It was a cheap, needless shot.  Nothing confusing about it.

Again...I'm not disputing that. Illegal plays are disciplined by penalties. Might as well get rid of penalties then and suspend for every infraction. Should you suspend for a hard slash? What's the point of an elbowing minor now?

How about Jamie Benn punching zetterberg. Gets nothing. The league is biased.

Zetterberger had him in a headlock off the faceoff and wouldn't let go. Benn got a penalty for roughing, didn't he?
