Unless it's painfully obvious, even for Sens management, that we're out of the race, when Anderson is healthy, and the focus becomes giving the youth their chance.

If any RH D man is coming in IMO it should be Wideman, talk about a guy who has been a company man and excelled in the positions he's been put in.  If he was on a decent team in the AHL he would be in the running for AHL MVP.  There's a guy that should be the next callup.  I like Gryba but you are starting to see how limited he is on a team that wants to play with speed and skill.

As for Anderson vs Lehner, I really don't know and I don't think anyone has anything on it other than guesses.  Lehner is starting to or maybe even has turned his game around.  He needs to keep starting and he needs the support of the organization.  He obviously plays better when he's given starts, the once every 2 weeks was and is killing him and his development.  Like I said before you either roll with him or you trade him.  It's not a matter of stealing the job because it never happens, guys are given the ball to run with it for a bit and test the waters.  Every time Lehner is given the ball he scores a touchdown and the organization says "ok, that's enough, Andy's back".

Just move one of the guys because they are both #1's but one guy has 10-15 years left in him and has been developed by the organization, the other has been a good soldier and the best goalie the Sens have ever had.

If that's the case then they should trade Anderson, there is ZERO point in keeping him on the bench when his value is at an all-time high if they want to run with Lehner. I think it's obvious what the right choice is for the Sens specifically and I think a lot of other people do too. Anderson's best years are going to be spent on a team that's finishing near the basement and out of the playoffs every year? Really? Once again if they keep Anderson over Lehner's it's a case of Murray being way too attached to the players which is already a huge issue. There's respect for a player and then there is stockholm syndrome.

Giving up 20 plus shots in a period to Buffalo is absolutely disgusting but this is a team that has been waiting for management to make a move all year and are expecting guys to be moved out any day now as well.  Tough to blame a team that's always waiting for something to happen.  1) it's the older guys that they want to move and 2) the young guys don't know how to deal with it.

It's tough to blame Murray at this point for things because of his health but where does the blame lie?

I think it was brought up earlier -- they've stunk the whole year and, apart from some healthy scratches here and there and, of course, the coach getting fired, there have been no changes. The only call-up who has actually played has been Pageau (Wideman didn't get any action and Hammond only sat as backup), there have been no trades, and not even the re-signing of Methot (another thing hanging over this club).

So yeah, sorry about your health and all, but there should have been more moves. We're just like the Leafs in that respect, except we didn't have the great start.

Well Murray is stepping down at season's end, God bless the man for trying to do the GM job while going through everything but it's pretty clear he can't at this point. It's a sad situation but that's the reality of it.

I don't think we can criticize Murray on the lack of moves until we see the roster going in to next year. There haven't been many significant trades this season, proving that they are hard to make in-year. So we'll just have to sit and watch and wait to see what, if anything, happens.

It would've been very foolish to resign Methot at any point until very recently, so they've been smart on that front.

tim1_2 wrote:I would be interested in obtaining Myers.  I'm sure it'll be costly though, especially considering his contract, salary, and cap hit are all pretty favourable.  Also, Myers is a RD, which isn't exactly where our need is....but he would help insulate Ceci a little bit, and is a better option than Gryba.  I guess if we're going to have to give up a bunch of assets to get someone, it would likely have to be for a LD, or more importantly a LW or C.  I'm also guessing that Tim Murray would want a first rounder for this draft back for Myers, and I don't see us doing that.

If we didn't already have Ceci I'd be for it, but I don't think he needs any more insulation than Myers does (let's not forget that this is his second full season and the first one was only supposed to last 9 games). I think I'd prefer having Karlsson/Ceci as the #1 and #2 on the right and Gryba as the #3 and on the PK.

P.S. One of the reasons we struggled in the second could well be because Ceci was out. Cowen missing his regular partner, Gryba playing more minutes than normal, two lefties on the third pairing. Our D is not experienced enough to overcome that many changes.

Murray has 90% of the organization on one way deals this year and some guys who were not the best players coming out of camp who made the roster. That was the biggest problem to start the year and it's carried forward to now. What happens when Smith is back? Does Pageau get sent back down?

I agree with the Methot thing, you had to play it out a little and it's now or never time over the next week or two.

The status quo is not a good thing right now, there's less than 3 weeks to the deadline and I think everyone can make a better judgement of what needs to happen going forward after that.

It's not just Murray.  He's also working within the parameters that Melnyk has set.  And, let's face it, having to continue to pay MacLean his $2M/year is (at least in Melnyk's eyes) still on Murray.  The coach's paycheck may not count against the cap but it sure counts against the internal budget.

EDIT: As for Methot, don't think it matters a lick to the players whether it was smart or foolish. It was yet another thing hanging over this team. Uncertainty and a young roster don't go together well.

Mike Liut is flying in tomorrow (I think) now that Dorion is back. As Simmer said this morning, I don't think he'd be flying in unless he felt there was a deal to be done. So we should have a new contract for Methot very soon.

That's been the biggest issue for the past 2 seasons, always off ice crap going on. Alfie leaving, Spezza wanting out, Murray having cancer, Melnyk being a moron, guys expecting to be traded or moved, etc, etc, etc.

Cameron preaches consistency, doing things the right way over and over... well until that happens at the top from Melnyk down it's impossible for your employees to be expected to do the same.

Too much for JVR if it's a Top 7 pick or something like that.
