It's actually nothing new. Karlsson at his best was producing ridiculous amounts of points AND dominating in all zones. People just choose to ignore it. You don't have to dish out hits and block shots to defend. Stealing pucks and coming out of corners with the puck after winning it from 2 opponents with regularity is also defense and Karlsson is the King.

Repeating that he can't play defense over and over again doesn't make it true. Nonsense like "he needs to defend more and score less" is just stupid. (I don't think I've ever typed that word) He can do both and he's proven that.

you're right, but we haven't seen it the last couple of years. He has been bad defensively since he got injured and up until MacLean was fired.

For sure. I was talking about when he's at his best obviously. At the top of his game, he's the best player on the ice, counting the opposing team, for just about every game he plays.

Fully agreed. I think he and the team are headed in the right direction under Dave Cameron.

Have to agree without quoting that huge post that they really appear to be headed in the right direction recently. Another bobby Ryan needed to break those close games, but hard to say much negative.

Sign Methot please. He changes everything on the back end.

it doesn't have to be Methot. IMO you can get somebody who does the same thing for cheaper. I don't know who that would be though,

Or a more expensive, better player... Ultimately the path of least resistance would be to sign him and keep him rather than hope something better comes along.

I think it does have to be Methot. I used to think he was easily replaceable, but I have now seen enough to believe that Karlsson's comfort level when playing with Methot brings enough value to give him a 5 x 5.

Let's hope for the status quo! It's working well so far!

Lazar in. No news on who comes out. Garrioch thinks Chiasson.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chiasson was scratched. It's probably his turn to take a seat.

I hope he turns it around. He can be a dominant forward with that size.

If EK had a Corsi of 100, people would still look at his lack of blocked shots and say, "Well, he isn't really defending."

Is it just me, or does BFR look more and more like the guy we expected when they made that trade? He seems to like playing under Cameron.

It's not just you. I have grown to like young BFR's game very, very much. I've seen him to it all (back check, play aggressively in the corners, make great passes, etc) and I love it!
