NHL standards? I question whether he is or not for sure. What did he do in Hartford, Vancouver, or Toronto? Anaheim is his one strong acomplishment and I think everyone knows he didn't do a ton there to begin with.

He didn't make the playoffs as Leafs GM and likely won't as Calgary's. Instead he's gone out and hired goons to 'protect' his players. These goons (Krys Barch) stated their intent to go after other team's star players. Good job Burke

He also isn't the GM in Calgary.

Whoa whoa, who did Burke draft in Anaheim? Haven't they all but busted there? The best move that Burke made was the Marchand and Beauchimen deal for Federov (who Murray signed in the first place, no piece to trade without Murray there). Murray landed the first Niedermayer... Pronger? Guy fell into Burke's lap.

Burke did very little to get Anaheim to where they were and don't forget Murray got them to game 7 in 03 against the Devils as well.

I know you are just playing devils advocate here but Burke is the most overrated NHL exuctive in the NHL today and maybe ever. Sather is pretty close though.

Burke just drafted the sedins. That's it. That's what he can always hang his hat on and as well he should since he orchestrated the picks.

He's obviously highly regarded within the NHL...I just don't see why.

Drafted Pronger too but for some reasons his teams always pick in the top 5 lol. Shocking.

and sometimes when his team is picking in the top 5, he's traded away his picks (see Seguin, Tyler)

And the Sedins couldn't cut it in the playoffs.
