No terms yet, I would expect a 7 X 7 or an 8 X 8.

Good news for the Kings, getting their ducks in a row.

I don't think you give Kopitar an 8 x 8 this early -- that's Hossa / Zetterberg / Heatley money. 6 x 6 or so sounds about right to me. He is a pretty special player, tho', so I couldn't blame them if they had to overpay to keep him.

Good point, 6 - 6.5 is more like it.

7 million is not the rumour, people are varying and no one seems to know what they're talking about.

Technically not until next year though, he's under contract this year.

he'll be really good in a year or two, 7 million will be cheap by then, i'm sure.. This guy really has some great potential...

Great deal.

That's going to be a steal of a contract in a few years.

Although probably not of Brown proportions.

EDIT: Or Zetterberg, for that matter.

Sorry, I meant his current one. $2.65M per? Are you kidding me?

EDIT: He and Holmstrom combined make under $5 million a season. Ridiculous.

2nd EDIT: And then toss in Niklas Kronwall for $3 million a season, and you realize how they can also afford Lidstrom, Hossa, Datsyuk, Stuart and Rafalski.

3rd EDIT: Sorry, I seem to be getting a bit off-topic. Wink

I know, it's unreal, but now Detroit's in a much tougher position to sign Zetterberg now than LA was to sign Kopitar now. Wow, as nice as it was to have Z under that awesome contract, he's been woefully underpaid and can command whatever he wants on the open market (10?). I think he's take a big discount to stay in Detroit, but it'll still be 7.5-8. That'll squeeze their cap in the upcoming years - we're going to find out just how deep they are (I know, I know...really deep Smile )
