Here's a suggestion if we need to replace Alfie long term and Sundin is not an option.

To Phillie:
Vermette
Schubert

To Ottawa:
Carter

Phillie gets the D-man they need along with Vermette. Vermettes contract is one year less and half the cost of Carters.

Ottawa gets a quality young center but a prospect may need to be thrown in if rumors are true that Phillie is at the contract limit of 50. If that is the case I would like to see Hersley added to the mix.

Since I am a big fan of Vermette my preference would be to swap Vermette for Kelly but I can't see Phillie going for that so its Vermette going the other way.

Seems pretty good... I too would rather get rid of Kelly before Vermette, but in any case I have the feeling this may be Vermette's last year in a sens uniform... I have a feeling he'll be traded probably at the deadline...

Garrioch was just on Hockeycentral at Noon reporting on the status of Alfie. He didn't have much to add. I suspect Alfie will be out between 7-14 days and I'm sure they're hoping for the 7-10 day range. This is the time to do it, so few games in the next week and we don't want it to linger.

Man, did Garrioch ever suck up to Kypreos.

One thing that was mentioned was that perhpaps this "Melnyk wants Sundin" thing was a way of providing a distraction from all the Gerber/Auld talk of late. I can buy that. And with this Alfie news now, it will put all that on the backshelf for a bit.

I don't know if it's worth calling anyone up as they only play 2 games in over a week whereas Bingo's season is just getting started and they want to win down there too...

But if they WERE to call up someone, Zubov or Zack Smith would be my picks

Yeah, no they're not going to, they think Alfie could be back for Phoenix. That's how small a thing this apparently is (or so Murray said just now).

10-14 Days according to Sportsnet. Not as bad.... yes it's surgery, but fairly noninvasive and relatively minor.

Believe me, as a long time fan of hockey, the two places Sundin simple will not and cannot go are Ottawa and Montreal.

I've heard Colorado numerous times and that seems pretty fitting.

I agree. Rangers, Colorado or retirement... Enough said.

However, it is fun to dream and think what we'd look like if we snagged him.

Is anyone else concerned about Alfie's injury? It could take longer that 1-2 weeks if there is complications. Maybe we will see Murray swing that deal sooner than later.

No, I'm not concerned and it's a simple procedure. He will only miss a game, two tops and will get him better in the long run. It's just time permits him to do it, that's why he is getting it done.

Really I'm not concerned. It's apparently one of the easiest and actually as non-invasive as possible. They said he'd walk out of the surgery and be on skates almost immediately.

The threat was the chip would cut through tissue, but he could've held off the surgery for a long time (apparently). Everyone felt that this was the time to do it.

Personally, I would've waited until Sunday morning, but...we don't want to risk the possibility of something worse happening as a result of the chip.

There's no denying that given the Sens schedule, this is the most opportune time to do it with less repercussions.

However, since Detroit LOST to the leafs, I have a feeling they're going to be awfully hungry for the 2 points on Saturday! affraid

Here's hoping Fish doesn't get injured...again!

Thanks, the more I look at it the more I think a deal like this but involving Kelly would add insurance if even Fisher were to go down for extended time. A Vermette - Carter - Winchester line would be exciting to watch I think.
