Farm Boy: BEST CINNAMON CHIPS IN THE WORLD

Tonight I go into farm boy to do some grocery shopping and I see an old friend working there part time to make ends meet, a former teammate of my in both minor hockey and Jr. I was chatting with him asking how things were and then the manager approches me and says "can I help you?". I say "no, I'm fine thanks". He then says "well, leave him alone and go away, he had work to do". Nothing had ever made my jaw drop until that point in time.

I then go and tell my girlfriend what happened, she doesn't totally buy it. I then said to her "that's fine but we won't be shopping here again". The same manager then proceeds to pass me and I tell him "I won't be shopping here again" and all he says is "that's fine, goodbye". I then said "my family won't be coming back either". Same answer from the manager.

My brother has also worked there in the past and has said they are slave drivers and have absolutely no respect for their employees. HAs anyone ever heard of anything similar? I will be filing a complaint with head office tomorrow.

The one on Montreal Road with the Royal Bank in the same complex. I'm still just shocked.

I haven't had that kind of experience in a long time. That's ridiculous, in this day in age where there's competition everywhere you look - that's a BAD move on that manager's part.

Yup. A lot of other options. Worst part is I spend a lot of money there along with other members of my family.

Don't close the door on it yet, see what head office says first.

Well I have a buddy who works for Sun Media so I'm gonna see what he says... see if they will run with a story.

Call tomorrow and speak to a day manager. Generally speaking, the GM works during the day at grocery stores. Hopefully, you'll get an earnest apology.

Some people are dicks. Maybe your buddy's girlfriend (or whatever) is always in there talking to him. Maybe someone just ran over his dog. Maybe he's just a Richard. Regardless, I'd give them an opportunity to make it right by giving them a chance to apologize.

That's probably a good idea and will humble that individual.

My niece just quit after being basically called a whore for having a strand of purple hair.

As far as businesses go, I've had a lot of experiences where you say you'll take your business elsewhere and it's basically "go right ahead." The customer is hardly ever right.

Doesn't surprise me. I'll pay a little more and go to the market downtown come the summer. Tons of other grocery stores around in the mean time.

At the end of the day you are complaining that the manager didn't let his employee goof off and talk to you.....

Don't sweat it - he's a manager at a fruit market - no big deal.

But he was rude to NEELY, not just his friend. The correct way to do this would have been to document this, wait until NEELY left, and then tell his friend that he is on a PIP (Performance Improvement Program) -- shape up or ship out. His friend could have kept working as he talked, or he could have asked to take a break or whatever. He could be a case and does this all the time. Regardless of anything though the manager was rude to a customer and for that he should get reprimanded as well -- put *HIM* on the PIP.
