Boudreau gets the axe

Just saw this reported on TSN and thought it deserved it's own thread. I doubt it helps much to be honest. Is a Semin trade the next thing on the agenda? Should be interesting to see what happens next.

Was it really Boudreau's fault ?

This move had to be done as the team has clearly lost respect for him and tuned him out but I wonder if Ovechkin and co. are a coachable team.

Boudreau took the fall... the players were no longer listening... will be interesting with Dale Hunter at the helm. Semin better watch out.

Lots of blame to go around actually, including Boudreau. He had everyone loving him earlier then he did something that got them hating him, disrespecting him.

I think McPhee needs to send a message to the players by dealing Semin and taking the 'C' off Ovechkin (with his blessing of course, I'm sure he can be talked into giving up the captaincy).

Interesting paragraph from that article...

"Hired four years ago, Boudreau went 201-88-40 in the regular season with the Capitals but just 17-20 in the playoffs. This season he tried a new approach, emphasizing accountability and the willingness to bench his star players -- team captain Ovechkin included -- as punishment for subpar performances."

Exactly my point. Let Laich take the official responsibilities. Ovechkin needs to go back to his old ways....for his sake and washington's sake. Its been established that he's no crosby and he never will be.

EDIT: it worked in Tampa....they gotta handle this well if it ever takes place in washington

Oops...saw the Maurice firing got addressed in the "General" thread before I posted in here. Things moving fast this morning.

I think Washington is probably about as uncoachable a team as you can get. Ovechkin had no respect for Boudreau, and it's hard to see the situation improving with Hunter. Hunter will put up with even LESS poop, and will certainly demand that Ovie be defensively responsible…how does this improve the situation? Ovechkin just wants to run & gun, and play however he sees fit at any given time. I don't think any coach would put up with this, and certainly not Hunter.

Semin is another problem, although one that is easily dealt with via trade.

Another guy I always wonder about is Green…Not sure how coachable he is either, although he rarely gets the spotlight given the Ovechkin problem. I think Green has a pretty sizeable ego, but he may actually respond well to Hunter. I don't think I can say the same about Ovechkin.
