When was the last time we drafted a defenseman straight out of the USHL in the first round? Well, at least this one won't be a top-10 pick so the expectations won't be as high. On the other hand this is the same spot we got Karlsson, so maybe the expectations will be even higher.

Absolutely nothing other than he's a physical beast. That and like all Latvians has a bad a$$ last name.

I bet you NEELY's name isn't bad-Donkey.

Button and Name Dropper do a mock draft...

http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=9832

They have us taking Zemgus Girgensons.

I think there may be a few surprise picks in there.

They have the Habs taking Alex Galchenyuk.

I think we'll end up trading this pick - and while exciting, it'll also make me a little sad. There are some nice players around 15 that would look good in a Sens uni.

Gotta trust and respect whatever Tim, Bryan and Dorion end up doing.

Maybe this goes down to the wire with Nash…If certain teams get to their pick and the guy they want is already gone…maybe a deal gets done. Let's say Ottawa really wants Cody Ceci (or whoever) and he's picked before #15…our pick gets a little more expendable in the eyes of management. I dunno, I'm just making Dung up now…it'd be quite something to see a Nash deal get done on the draft floor!

Realistically, I think it happens after July 1st.

Yeah, probably. You'd figure that the same teams pursuing Nash (and maybe now Ryan) are the ones that would also like to look up Parise on July 1. Might have to wait for Parise to land before either Nash or Ryan take off.

It's actually a pretty decent last name, haha. No one else has it in Canada except my family... kind of sad 1/2 of them are nut jobs.

The nice thing about the Sens pick is it's good enough to be a chip in any deal. NYR, SJ, Philly, all teams with worse draft picks if you are talking about Nash.

Hopefully there isn't a large run on D because the Sens need to land one in this first round if they draft IMO.

Like I have said before, you never know what Murray will do on draft day. The guy is a mover.

The thing is, if you look at any mock there are really strong D-men around at 15 no matter what other teams do. And if teams go bat Dung crazy, there will be a great forward there. This is an intriguing draft for Ottawa as I don't think they'll end up picking...but if they do, Lindholm, Ceci, Maata, KooKoo and on and on, so many good players.

You don't need a source right now to have a pretty good idea that Murray may not hang onto that pick. Yes, there are nice players there at 15 - a few of which would fit this organization like a glove, but if Murray sees a player on the market that can help the Sens now, he'll trade that pick. Again, that's the beauty of drafting so well and we should continue to lavish praise on the Sens organization for being so good at it.

The thing that throws a bit of a wrench into things is that we could really use a young, mobile, right-handed D-man who excels at both ends of the ice - and I doubt you can acquire someone like that only with that pick, so Murray has his hands full for sure.

The exact same thing was said last year about not picking 6th.

Chances of drafting a player at #15 who will step in and contribute in an area of need on a team are slim. If the area of need is a mobile defenseman, the chances are close to nil. If we draft a defenseman at #15 it will be 2-3 years before he gets a regular shift. Which means for the time being you probably should be looking longer-term plus short-term for Bing, in terms of whether you try to get a rightie or a leftie. Most likely it just would not matter because a lot can and will happen in 2-3 years.

I wonder if it's possible to get such a player via trade or free agency? Are there such things?

Bryan Murray probably doesn't know right now whether or not he'll be picking at 15 so there's no real point trying to speculate on it, because there is no answer. There are probably a million scenarios that could play out.

What I find more interesting right now is the possiblity of Edmonton trading down. They obviously have a need on D that likely won't be able to be fully addressed through free agency...Maybe they swap with Montreal or whoever, but that is what I find most interesting right now.

Who the hell knows what could play out with Murray and the 15th?
