Agreed on pretty much everything, Alfie, Karlsson, Spezza, the kids etc.
But Alfie hasn't played in 7 months, I'm still hopeful.

For sure... he'll get his game back. He just looked tentative. unsure. limited. He actually looked a lot like a rookie yesterday (except for the fact that other players would defer to him almost every time he was on the ice).

The observation I made yesterday is that the team is better with him on the roster...just not on the ice. Other players play better because he's there, but he wasn't effective at all.

finally going to get to see the game on an actual TV tonight(saturday)... does anyone have a possible roster for the game? what I saw last night didn't impress me much personaly. I saw a lot of sloppy play and saw our sens getting bounced around alot at times. I'll admit it was pre-season and some of these players are kids really. I hope they give petersson another go. I'd like to see him maybe play on a line with Z smith. I don't think it was best to pair him up with pageau. both were being bounced around alot at times.

BTW - 2nd line center prediction is Regin.

Da Costa will have something to say about that. Right now, I'd say it's 50-50.

As for the cap, I'm pretty sure we'll carry 23 players into November. That changes the cap outlook.

According to CapGeek, if Kuba were sent to the minors and not replaced, the team is below the floor by ~ 200K. The team is listed as having 23 players to get to their current figure.

Da Costa may make the team but I expect Regin to get more ice time and play with better players. The first 3 games have shown me nothing. Once teams field what is close to an NHL team, I think we will have a better idea of what Da Costa, Zibenajed, and Regin can do.

Filatov is definitely top-6 on this team.

It's on RDS. Not sure if Rogers 22 has it... no CBC coverage though.

I get RDS, so hopefully it's actually there, cause it wasn't last night. I got Bell so no Rogers 22 for me. And I tried 456 at my friend's house last night on Rogers and it said it was locked out.

Yeah, dropping Kuba and replacing with Rundblad lands us just shy of the cap floor, and I'm assuming Cowen is up too.

That roster only has 22 players, so we could add a 23rd to hit the floor.

IMO there's no possibility that they actually move Kuba down but just to entertain the notion from a cap point of view all they'd have to do is keep Dacosta or Zib up as an top 6 injury reserve. with winch as a bottom 6 injury reserve.
personally I have a bad feeling about the top 6 staying healthy. we could always move Regin to the wing and slide in one of our rookies up to center.

You have to read what I wrote a little closer. I said they would carry 23 players into November...Every dollar you are over the cap reduces the amount you have to have put toward the cap later. For instance, if they are $3mil over for half the season, that's $1.5mil that gets put towards the season long cap, meaning they can actually be "below" the cap by less than $1.5mil for the second half.

If they carry a cap of $51.w/e into November, that 200K disappears. 6 games in, with a 23 man roster, they can shed Kuba (if 200K is accurate).

As for the 2nd line center discussion, I agree. All we can do is wait until the games are more relevant and the competition is more significant. I don't think there will be a resolution before the 9 game mark and even then, I'm not sure it'll be clear.

That being said, although they all bring something different to the table, I think contract status will be the deciding factor... One 1-way, two 2-ways :crossarms: meh

Yeah, getting to $48.3M without Kuba requires a 23 man roster. It doesn't even have to be Zib or DaCosta, though. I had Borowicki and Gryba both up with Carkner as the 13th forward and that worked, too.

So, let's get back to reality, Kuba's not going anywhere. So, case closed.

The way Da Costa handles the puck reminds me of Forsberg. Obviously nothing is on the same level (especially not the physical package) but his ability to keep the puck on his stick is very impressive.

Actually, combine Zibanejad and Da Costa and you'd have Forsberg.

Da Costa has really surprised me... hopefully there's a lot more to come... if he doesn't make the club, you know he'll be at the top of the call-up list.

Haha I just realized this was the wrong thread too.

I think Da Costa has earned his spot (so far).
