Apparently Kulemin was playing tonight. Didn't notice him at all.

Karlsson might be the most purely tallented D man in The NHL, just amazing.
Honestly it was like every play he was doing something mesmerizing. And he must have been out there for upwards of 25 minutes tonight.
Think of the numbers he would put up if you stuck him in Rafalski's old spot opposite Lidstrom in Detroit. That's the only part of this rebuild that bothers me: knowing how much better Karlsson's stat-sheet could look with a proper team around him. It's a pretty minor complaint all-told though and if we end up adding a Yakpov/Grigorenko/Forsberg/Galchenyuk-type at the draft hopefully we won't ever have that problem again.

Also I thought Zibanejad had a pretty lacklustre showing (although he played the game smartly and took short shifts). Agree with your statement on the other defencemen although it's still early.

I honestly don't think The Sens are going to be that bad and I truly believe if Anderson plays 65-70 games, The Sens will get into the playoffs in the 7th or 8th spot. If MacLean can impliment his system right away and everyone buys in, The Sens are fine. I think they could really surprise if only one or two players really bounce back. They were no where as bad as they were last year and no where as good as an 11 game winning streak the year before, they fall somewhere in the middle.

We'll see. The forward depth still seems very weak up-front, the defence will be inexperienced, and Anderson will probably be worse than he was for us last season (he pretty much has to be). And since Murray, Ebert, Reinhart, Dumba, etc. are all slated to be top picks as well, we could be getting one of those forwards in the 8 slot.
A lot of it will depend on Spezza's health IMO.

The team will be exciting to watch though ( everywhere the scoresheet and standings that is).

Do you think that hit by Phaneuf in the 1st was a shot to the head? It looked like it to me... and if it was -- they ALL are supposed to be called.
Thought Butler & Filatov looked good tonight...
Rundblad has some learning to do... but that's natural.
New system will take time to learn... after two practices only... it's not ready yet.
Toronto had a much more experienced lineup and only won by 2 goals... so not too bad for the young guys... especially the D overall.
Cowen makes it... so who goes away.

I would say sneeking into the 8th spot is 50/50. The biggest thing is the best players staying healthy, if that happens then the younger guys will overachieve.

I don't know .. this team is going to have a rough few months until they gel and start to learn MacLean's system.
Tonight might be pretty telling of a typical Sens game this year.
A couple of brilliant plays by Karlsson/Spezza but no goal and a few mistakes by one of the rookies leading to a goal against.
Too soon to tell, I do think it's possible. The question that needs to be asked is if the Sens make the playoffs, who doesn't ?

Positives:
-Filatov with two assists
-Hoffman had a pretty good game
-Rundblad was shaky but did pull off a sick toe-drag at the point - so sick that he didn't even have to move the rest of his body
-Cowen was great
-Karlsson was unbelievable
-Zibanejad was fast and physical at least at the start of the game
-Lehner and Auld both played pretty well
-Regin had a pretty good game I thought
-Kuba's not trying to get our hopes up so we won't be disappointed when the season starts
