2011 NHL Awards

Anyone else watching? It's quite entertaining. Jay Mohr is doing a great job - very funny.

So far, Lidstrom picks up another Norris Trophy, as expected Daniel Sedin received his Art Ross, and Zdeno Chara was awarded the Mark Messier Award.

Norris: Nick Lidstrom (DET)
Art Ross: Daniel Sedin (VAN)
Mark Messier Award: Zdeno Chara (BOS)
Frank J. Selke: Ryan Kesler

Not sure Lidstrom deserved the Norris this year, but whatever. Also D. Sedin gets Hart (or Ted Lindsay I guess it's called now) even though his brother was like the next highest scorer in the league. I guess if you give it to Henrik you can't hold it from Daniel although HS produced a lot in '09-'10 when D. Sedin was injured.

Skinner with Calder is fair. Kesler with Selke is fair given Datsyuk missed a lot of games. Bylsma with Jack Adams I totally agree -- especially after watching that team almost beat Tampa despite missing Crosby AND Malkin. Just an incredibly well-oiled machine and if they had a healthy 87 and a healthy 71 they would have almost certainly won the Cup, IMO.

Wait, what? How did I miss the Hart and Calder? I'm watching on CBC and haven't seen them... did they skip them?

Weird, they are just missing them all....

I guess it's being played earlier in the States or something. I'm reading off HF and NHL.com. The HF thread is pretty funny, actually.

Looks like I may have been wrong about the Hart though (was confused because I forgot which one the Ted Lindsay was replacing name-wise). I think Perry won it.

The Ted Lindsay replaces the Lester B. Pearson Award. The Hart is still the Hart.

Get the awards back to Canada.

They don't even know Martin St. Louis.. They said his name wrong... very embarassing....

They don't know anything about hockey. At least you would think they would be told how to pronounce a french canadian name.

Perry for the Hart? Wow. That late-season surge really did it for him.

Bylsma for the Adams. No surprise there.

Skinner gets the Calder. That must have been a close vote. I'll bet he was neck and neck with Couture.

I'm happy for laperriere and I wish I didn't gripe about this, but his perseverance came last season in the playoffs. This year was Ray Emery's. I'm surprised and a little confused with the masterton award.

Jay Mohr is a very funny dude. He is certainly a better choice to host than Ron MacLean and Roenick.

Anyway, I never watch the awards because they are usually somewhat painful to sit through. Hockey players talking does not make good TV.
