Dreger: "Emery signs 2-way contract with Anaheim. Will be on waivers at noon. $500,000 (NHL). $105,000 (AhL)."

Waivers eh? Heh heh... here we go...

Update: Waivers are needed to play in the AHL, not the NHL.

I will poop myself if the Islanders do that again. Of course, I wouldn't put it past Garth Snow. Emery would likely report anyways, he just wants to get his NHL career back on track.

Absolutely he would report and it fast tracks his return to the NHL because the Isles wouldn't try to send him through waivers to get him down to the AHL.

Not only they wouldn't do it, they couldn't. If they want to put him on waivers to send him to AHL, they first have to offer him back to Anaheim.

So any team picking Emery off waivers would need to put him back ON waivers to get to the AHL for longer than a 2-week conditioning stint. Meaning Anaheim could claim him. But then Anaheim would have to put him back on waivers……I think Emery’s going to be riding the waiver wire indefinitely!

Actually, Anaheim would get first pick if he's on waivers, since they would have lost him that way in the first place.

They go to the bottom of the list don't they? They successfully claimed Nabokov so I think they move down.

I suspect no other team would make a claim anyway.

I don't think so. With the Nabokov situation, Bobby Mac made it clear(ish) that NYI couldn't claim him, then make some sort of arrangement to put him back on waivers so that Detroit would get him. If memory serves me, NYI could put Nabby back on waivers, but Detroit doesn't move to the front of the line. They could claim him, but from their normal position.

Ah, but Nabokov was on re-entry waivers, whereas Anaheim's trying to send Emery down. Speaking of Bobby Mac, he had this to say yesterday

Team claiming Emery can't get him to minors without ANA having shot to get him back. So I don't see it happening, but I've been wrong before.

Thanks for clarifying. All this waiver business is confusing.

Bascially, Anaheim is the team he wants to be with and they are wishing to put him in the AHL to get his conditioning up. If any team claims him, just like any player being waived to the AHL, they are basically doing it with the intention of playing that player in the NHL.

HA HA!

Well, best of luck to Emery. I hope he does well and can close out his career on a high.

Despite all his demons and issues, we went to the SCF with him, and no one will ever forget the "Brawl in Buffalo" where he gave Biron a beat down and then squared off with Peters.
