Don't know, crazy that they waived a player like that. Makes me wonder how deep the issues are with him - or that absolutely no one wants him and he'll clear.

My final answer is the Islanders.

I was really disappointed with them not doing anything yesterday - and I think they need to shore up their D a bit.

What they really need is Kovalchuk, but they'll go for Souray me thinks.

If he clears, do they dare bring him back up? They'd be on the hook for half and I'm sure he'd be snatched up quick.

I'd take him on re-entry before you could blink an eye. Gonchar, Souray, Karlsson? Sure, why not?

Maybe he had no trade value or maybe Edmonton was just fed up with him. He has a NTC so he could have shot down all trade attempts so they realized it was too much hassle and waived him. Now he can get picked up anywhere, even if he didn't want to play there. He might be miserable somewhere else now. He's not Edmonton's problem now.

That being said, would you pick him up and waive Kuba?

No, I definitely wouldn't. That's just bad karma, Kuba's a good player, I'd probably prefer Souray, but I wouldn't waive Kuba to get him.

I thought Souray's NTC lifted on the 1st? I'm sure actually.

Word is they won't be buying him out if he clears. So, looks like they'll hope for someone picking him up or bury him in the minors. Ouch. He's owed $4.5M in salary in each of the next two seasons.

Souray had a NMC for the 2009/10 season, so it should not be a factor now.

Good for them, he said some really negative things about them - and true or not, those should have stayed behind closed doors.

I bet he retires to avoid the AHL if it comes to that.

Yeah, if he clears, I would not be surprised at a retirement being done... too bad... not the way you want to go out.

WOW! WAIVED??!! Ok then. I guess there were no takers. What in the world?? Odd move, but they need to get him out of there. Could they seriously not have gotten a prospect or pick in return from anyone? I don't get it at all.
