Hurt Locker was a great movie, avatar was great to but its so over rated and it seems to win every award, in my mind james camreon is secretly paying every one of to give him awards and to be mentioned in every academy award speech

yep saw shutter island just another classic 2 hour + scorcese moviePKC wrote:If anyone watched Shutter Island, they'd realize that Martin Scorcese is a movie-directing deity.
The list of amazingly good movies he's made is unsurpassable:
Shutter Island
The Departed
The Aviator
Gangs of New York
Casino
Cape Fear
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
Cinematic royalty. His movies are the pinnacle of achievement in film.

I finally got to see The Hustler about 2 or 3 years ago. Very nice.

And yes, Scorcese is the man. What a list of movies he's made. Shutter Island is definately a must see!

Yep I've seen all those and I love most of them, but here's the question. If you give any of those movies to another director, do you think the quality downgrades much?
I mean, have you seen the asian version of the departed? it's arguably better...
SpezDispenser wrote:No one could have directed Goodfellas or Casino like Scorcese did. He made those films feel so real, they are they greatest achievement is drama/mob films, especially Goodfellas. The Godfather is The Godfather, but Goodfellas has to be considered the starkest look at the mafia I would guess.
I think Gangs, Aviator - movies like that could have been done by a Spielberg for example, but Goodfellas would be the film that no one else could have given the proper credence to.

There you go
EDIT: Didn`t even know Tarantino was the writer behind True Romance.
