Yes, BM signed a contract extension today.

I was referring to the thread title, if you were being facetious.

But I have found these articles saying Cheechoo was indeed waived:

Cheechoo waived

Not a bad day....especially coming off of a win against the Caps

I think it's a one-year extension. BM must be starting to look towards retirement, sadly.

I means another 2 drafts though!

Hopefully the new GM will keep the scouting staff.
I don't see Tim Murray getting rid of his staff next year.

Nothing wrong with Tim Murray. He's done a solid job so far.

Tim Murray is excellent. He was the one in NY that made Sather take Staal. He insisted on it and Sather's lucky he did.

He's also responsible for most of the drafting that takes place. He, Dorion, Forsberg, all of them work on it, but it's Tim that has the final say.

He'll be a really nice GM for us, like his Uncle.

When Murray goes, we'll need a 'finishing' gm not a building GM. Unless I've missed something about Tim, I don't think he's the guy we should be hoping to have takeover.

To me, you always need a builder in there with the way the cap is. I like that Murray has his own guy ready to take over - and Tim Murray will promote from within to help him maintain this organization. It'll be all good.

Meh, I'd rather have an experienced guy. A battle tested veteran, not a young guy looking to make a name for himself.

Exactly, unless that youngster is Yzerman. Some of Hollands genius has had to have rubbed off on him

Umm yes. In Stevie Y's case, I make an exception.

Is Bob Gainey available? I love undersized forwards.

Even though I have heard Stevie Y isnt interested in coming home. I would love to have him come in next year and mentor under Murray and then take over.

I did start the Cheechoo depreciation thread but I sincerely hope this guy can find his game again. I think his body just must be done. He worked hard but didn't produce. Perhaps he can find a lesser role with another club.

His only real problem is that he's seriously overpaid at the moment. This doesn't happen to him if he's making $500K. Then he's Shean Donovan.

Well, that, and Cheechoo really can't skate anymore. Dude needs some power skating lessons.
