30 million is actually more than 10% because it goes by households.

Well, my point was that for some people, each person has his own wii at home.

Does anyone have any experience with this app?

I read about this on some message board that came up semi-randomly in an unrelated google search. The guy was raving about it like it was the best thing to happen to his PS3 since, well, getting the PS3. From what I understand, it's a Java app that runs on your PC (or Linux box, or Mac) and trans-codes media files so they can be playable on your PS3.

I thought that all you had to do to play media files from your PC was to enable sharing (you can do this in WMP 11 by going to Library->Media Sharing and enabling sharing to "Unknown Device" and/or "Playstation 3"); if any file types were not playable then you would trans-code them offline. Does this application do more than just transcode files? Is it actively involved with streaming media files to the PS3 or can the PS3 do that all on its own?

You can run it on a PC, Linux box or Mac. And, unfortunately, I have no idea what MS Media Server is or does

Like I said, the guy was raving about it, how he could play any media file on his PS3, whereas in the past most of the files he'd download would not play.

I use TVersity as my media server. Easy to setup and works great.

Transcoding works pretty well but it's better to have media in native formats that the PS3 supports.

Only problem is I have Wi-Fi so I can only transfer so much before it starts to chug.

Can't post a link right now because of a web filter, but EB/Gamestop has a pre-oder for God of War III special edition that comes in a Pandora's Box scultpure and pre-oder bonuses including alt. skins for Kratos, and O.S.T.'s for all 3 G.of.W. games. PRetty cool... priced @ $99

I am fine with streaming with media player.

COdecs are pretty much updated with the system update.

Yeah that's the one. Pretty freaking cool. I ended up getting the Arkham Asylum Special Edition with the Batarang that is now hanging over my closet door.

I've enabled "Media center connection" on the PS3. But when I go to the Windows Media Player, I don't have anything showing up in the Library : Media sharing box to allow connection to either "Unknown device" or "Playstation".

This is what I'm supposed to see in WMF:


In my case I don't have the check-box "Find media that others are sharing" but the rest of the dialog box looks the same. However I have nothing in the big white box in the middle showing any devices that are detected.

What am I missing? I don't have a lot of media files while I'm trying to set this up, but I made sure I had at least one media folder with video clips in it (added in WMF). Is there some system-level file sharing I should be enabling as well?

I have no idea, I use Orb and it seems to work.
