I think you're reaching here. And technically, Alfredsson hasn't played a full season since his rookie year.

For about the seventh time, last season was a bust for everyone. Compare Alfredsson's PPG in that season and the season prior and it was the difference between 104 points and 76. That was all Hartsburg, and Spezza was hardly useless in offering 73 points, more than twice Fisher's total.

Now, can we have a kovalev depreciation thread?

I don't think we outplayed them at all. Sure we controlled the puck a lot and had a lot of shots but their defence made pretty sure those were all very low percentage plays a pee-wee goalie could stop.

This team needs to crash the net more and screen their goalie. They also need someone who can really shoot the damn puck, especially from the point.

I agree kovie and spezza sucked as much as our d-core last night (weak attempt by volchie on that 2on1), but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it'll be a long season. Its supposed to be tough for the sens to make it, and if they do it'll be a lower seed most likely. We're in 7th place (and 2 games in hand on the habs). I'm happy with that considering all the injuries and issues with Kovie/Spezz/Defence. Dung happens, and its the first game back from a long road trip! It's not like this hasn't happeend before, its more than expected.

Depreciate away, he's just terrible! I think he's homesick...

Cap'n Clutch wrote:These recent games really tell me how badly we need Leclaire, Neil, Donovan and yes even Picard back. How much longer for these guys? I know Leclaire is due back at the end of the month but what about the rest?

Yeah, and by then we'll be out of the race completely.

WTF is wrong with Elliott? Can he not make a save anymore? Wow!

What goal was Elliotts fault last night? The 2 on 1 where one of the leagues best snippers but it off the post and in? The puck that was tipped 2 times on a on etimer from the point where he was screened? Or the goal where Elliott made the first save, got barrolled into and 4 guys just watched the guy put it in the back of the net?

As soon as Leclaire is back we will be crying about him not stealing games.

IT'S NOT THE GOALTENDING!

Sorry Neely, but this guy has been brutal lately. He's not helping the teams confidence at all.

It's not all goaltending, but it's not helping. He could be much better.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo sick of that excuse. More so then anything else in Ottawa. Elliott is a 1st year backup who is making 600K. How does he effect the confidence of Kovalev and Spezza who are making 20 times more then he is combined.

Elliott on most nights has played well enough for the team to win and he has given them a chance on most nights. That was actually his first regular season loss at home since mid Febuary.

Forget a thread, we ought to all contribute to a big bag of Dung to light on fire and leave at his doorstep.

When Clouston got here the team seemed to turn it around, everyone but Spezza and Heatley. You keep saying it was a bust last year for everyone, well wtf is this year? Whether it was a bust for everyone or not, this is Spezza's 2nd straight BRUTAL season.

Also, if you want to compare a 37 year old winger who has never come close to making 7 mil a year vs a 26 year old "in his prime" center then go ahead.

Dont know why you believe in the guy so much, he gives no one any reason to. Game changed, he didnt. People tell him he has to, he chooses not to. He mails it in when things dont go his way and he is about as much of a leader as Kovalev is.

This link will tell you a lot about last nights game. Ask yourself why one of your smallest players got ALL of his shots so close to the net while some of your biggest, highest paid players couldn't be bothered to do the same. Then ask yourself again if you can blame Elliott.

It's pretty Diddling sickening.

How about on Kostitsyn last night? That was a point-blank shot from 5 feet. Should have been a goal.

Why should Elliott have to steal a game when the player in front of him can't even earn one?

I love Elliott - I think he's gonna be a rock for us, but we're dealing with less than a full team here with no Kovalev and no Spezza (or they might be there in body, but definitely not in mind or spirit). If we want to be a playoff team, it's on Elliott right now to save us.

Is that unfair? Yes. Is it too much to ask? Yes. Is it true? Pretty much.

There are guys ( I won't bother naming names, you all know who) who are much more deserving of criticism than Elliott at this point.

Wait, wait, wait. Don't get me wrong, I think Elliott's been doing fine - not great, not even very good, but he's been fine. He'll eventually need to crank it up a couple of notches, but I believe in him. It's very disappointing and everyone needs to be called out, but Elliot is far and away NOT the guy to blame.

And I'll name names for you: Jason Spezza and Alex Kovalev. They've been the downfall of our season and the reason we're about to leave the top 8 in the East instead of being firmly entrenched in 6th right now.

On a happier note, Michalek, Fisher and Alfie were amazing last night. As was Winchester, Shannon and Regin. And Campoli and Karlsson.

Those are bright, bright spots for us.

100% agree, it's on Elliott and Leclaire to make Ottawa a playoff team. They need all-star, rock solid, and consistant goaltending for them to even have a sniff at the playoffs.

Fact of the matter is this team needs to start over up front, in a big way. Spezza isnt an answer short term or long term and is defently a problem. Having him in Ottawa with kids is a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't think we need to justify anything in saying we're not blaming one person, we're not. Clearly. It's just part of the problem that we are pointing out. That's all.

The rest is quite obvious I think.

From now on you cannot call out Spezza without calling out Kovalev in the same sentence. It's the new rule. Kovalev sucks. And I've heard different 'reasons' why lately.

1.He always needs a guy crashing the net to be successful.

Dung. He was with Fisher and blew donkey.

2.He needs to have guys who can make passes on the PP to be successful.

Okay, fine, maybe I can buy into that - a little.

Yup, 100%. They are the reason that The Sens are where they are. This team will not make the playoffs again as long as Spezza is here. Not just this year but for a long time to come. You cant have that guy leading your team and as soon as Alfi is gone (which may be in short order) Spezza is the guy left there.

Spezza is going to make 42 mil, Kovalev is going to make 10 in Ottawa. I absolutely can call out a guy who has gladly signed his 7 year, 49 million dollr deal who always talks through the media and spits out BS.

Kovalev is gone next year or sooner, he's a short term fix. Spezza will actually grow with the core which is the scariest possible scenario for me.

If we didn't outplay them, we certainly outchanced them. We made them take 7 penalties! Whether they were earned or not, that's i think the highest the sens have had this year (or close to it). And we outplayed them badly in the first period, yet were down 1-0 thanks to a bad bounce of the official and bad D by Volchie (never thought I'd say that....)

Leclaire is in full gear and facing shots again.

Back soon maybe?
