N4L wrote:Im not conviced 100% Fisher is a true number 1, however I am convinced that Spezza is not. Every day of the week I'll take a team of Mike Fishers over a team of Jason Spezza's, I said that before Fisher got off to this start and was playing as well as he has been.

We may not need to replace Spezza which is the good thing, you have guys who can step up here already, will they be as good as Savard? Probably not, but there are WAY better options then Spezza out there for a lot less then 7 mil.

Fisher has been this teams best forward since the start of camp, Spezza, like he always does didnt get his production through hard work and his game goes to Dung.

Spezza is not a number 1 center, he's a number one center with a 33 year old Alfi and a 25 year old Heatley ripping up The NHL.

Long story short, Fisher, number 1 center or not brings more to the team then Spezza does. Spezza will never hit the number he did when he was 22, 23 ever again, nooooo shot in hell.

I don't disagree with most of this post. I'm curious, though. What are the options "out there" that you're referring to?

Oh yeah! That was funny! GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Los Angeles Kings - 10:30pm ET - Thu. Dec. 3rd, 2009 PLUS post game thoughts - Page 18 62136

I wanted to trade Spezza for Andy McDonald around the same time. Silliness! GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Los Angeles Kings - 10:30pm ET - Thu. Dec. 3rd, 2009 PLUS post game thoughts - Page 18 270956

I would take either of those guys straight up for Spezza at this point.

Looks like the Blues are up to their old "not quite there" ways again this year. They could possibly change things up if they want to get out of that routine.

I can't really add more to this than what's been said - on both sides of the argument - except that I don't want to give up on Spezza, but I'm getting increasingly concerned.

I would seriously try Spezza with players other than #9 and #11. These two are doing well without him.

Clouston is line juggler extraordinaire, he has to be seriously considering it at this point.

What have we got to lose ?

This is what I don't understand. CLEARLY it's not working out with Alfie. Move Alfie back with Fisher, give Spezza Shannon or Cheechoo - or go out and buy him a rental sniper. People say a lot of things about Spezza (N4L), but the long and the short is he's very, very talented and he needs a finisher.

No hockey for me this weekend. I'm going surfing. I figure, by the time I'm back, I'll either be on the "get rid of Spezza now bandwagon" or we'll at least see the Spezza of earlier this season. Something's gotta give....and soon! Come on Spezz...this is it! Go time! Don't let me down!!!

Having said that the consensus seems to be that Mike Fisher and Alex Ovechkin are essentially the same player. I wonder if it might be a good idea to deal Fisher to Washington and see if an opportunity to play with the "Great 8" helps Spezza?

It's worth a shot.

And before you respond, no Ottawa radio personalities count as 'experts'.

Surely you're not speaking of John "The Man of the Fecal" Rodenburg. Lloyd Sweaterman. Lee "Small Time" Versage...???

That's an all-star lineup of "insiders" and "experts" right there. GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Los Angeles Kings - 10:30pm ET - Thu. That says it all.

I agree with that. There are not a lot of players who can do what those 3 do, I would say Datsyuk as well though, maybe Perry too.

Absolutely. Ovechkin, Iginla, Datsyuk, Perry, Fisher... a rare breed of Superstar.

This was said and agreed upon by about 3 or 4 people in the course of an NHL pre-game show. Ovechkin, Iginla and Fisher are about the same.

I thought the agreement was that they were equally UNIQUE... not equal skill wise.
