Coyotes' prospect Viktor Tikhonov is following in Filatov's steps and is leaving the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL for the KHL.

Don't draft Russians.

It's begining to look that way but there a very few exceptions. Kulikov is good enough to stick around.

I think you have to draft Russians to a team with a very young core. Otherwise they will just go back.

It's just for one year for both, I doubt they will stay there.

You never know - once they get there and have huge sums of money thrown at them, what incentive do they have to come back?

And yes - there are exceptions to every rule. Kulikov, Grachev, and let's say Loktionov are three I can think of, all guys played the last few years in NA for the CHL. The were already here and obviously intended on staying. If a guy will play for almost free in the CHL they will play for an ELC in the NHL.

Karlsson could be heading back to Sweden this year also, does it mean he wills tay there?
I understand a guy like Radulov going home after a few seasons in the NHL, but Filatov and Tikhonov are very young and haven't played much/at all in their respective teams.

PLus, they probably talk a lot to their team management and it's probably a mutual agreement.

Sweden and Russia are quite different. The KHL throws a lot of money out to its own kind. Sweden's SEL just doesn't have that much money.

You risk losing the player forever letting them go back there. Look at the trouble Malkin went through. Radulov was only supposed to go back maybe one year or two... where's he now? Still there.

Even if you draft a NA player and instead of accepting assignment to the AHL, CHL or wherever, they decide to go to Europe. It's not what a team wants its prospects to do. They obviously were not playing to expectations here to make an impact on the NHL club, so the team wanted them to go to the AHL and get more minutes while improving their NA game. What's wrong with that?

Is that what they said about him when he was drafted?

People like to claim that they "know" a player. They don't know Diddle all.
