Clouston defended him in the scrum today after practice saying his stick should have been in the lane on that first goal but it was just a crazy bad bounce. But yeah, one game only. Settle down everyone.

I appriciate this site so much more reading that crap. Really, people have about zero objecivity and just make Dung up... Lee is a better outlet passer then Karlsson? He moves the puck more efficiently?

Really hope one of those kids gets hit a puck right in the chops.

Well at least the Cole talk had died down, hasn't it?

Smile

We've got two right-hand-shots now with Karlsson and Carkner, right? And you're not going to sit A-Train and Volchenkov. Other than that (right-hand shot) Lee doesn't bring much to bump anyone else off.

Although if Campoli -- his decent game last night notwithstanding -- continues to struggle, and Kuba is nowhere to be seen, I wouldn't mind seeing Lee here over him.

We keep talking about internal competition, but the truth is that with Kuba doing his best Hasek imitation (yeah, I went there) there is no-one pushing Campoli or Picard. Ideally we'd have two guys being healthy scratches each game -- one forward and one defenseman. But that's not the case now.

Well said... Until Kuba get's back, the defence will remain as is. The top 2 no need to go there, we are not sending Karlsson down unless he goes on a terrible strech and has absolutely no buisness being in the NHL. Picard-Carkner have been real solid as a 3rd pairing all year.... (Last nigth not withstanding). So really there would only be Campoli.

What would Lee bring more not much. Murray gave alot to get Campoli and im sure he will be given ample oppurtunitys to succeed. He's still learning so seriously Lee is not coming to Ottawa in the near future. Once Kuba get's back we will have a Campoli-Picard battle anyways so why bring Lee up. Unless Kuba is out for a long time that's the way the defence will remain IMO!

Why are they always talking about brining up Lee? The guy has 4 points in 7 games... Cant hold his +/- against him because apparently the goaltending has been awful.

A lot of them are misguided to say the least. They've been praying for Carkner to fail so they could get Lee brought up.

But that's challenged! Carkner is playing very well. He's bigger, more physical, has a better shot and costs less. I could see if they pining for Lee over Campoli, but what's Carkner done other than exceed everyone's expectations?

This site is better for straight up Sens talk. I used to go to HF a lot, but the level of discussion, I find, lacks considerably compared to here.

I liked Campoli last night as well. I see him coming around and becoming the OD we expected. And he's great on the PP as well, he and Karlsson will soon form a bullet-shooting back end on the power play.

shabbs wrote:Man.. what a crazy game last night. Who were those Sens that came out flat and stupid? So many mistakes and turnovers to start the game. Kudos to Leclaire for keeping us in there and letting us crawl back. They better address that sloppy start real quick.

The same Sens that came out against MTL last week, laid an egg, and managed to steal the game after only really playing for 10 minutes.

You can say the same about our play against a number of teams this year: inconsistent, sloppy, not all on the same page. The results are there, sure, but most of those were against weak teams. There honestly hasn't been a lot to rave about concerning the team, as a whole, past a few bright spots (Leclaire, Volchenkov and Phillips, Alfie, Michalek, Carkner -- in that order).

The warning signs were there for anyone willing to see. I think we have the potential for a good team, for sure, but there's a long way to go yet. Calls for outrageous stompings of NSH and 10-2 starts were always waaay too over-confident for my liking. This team is all about babysteps -- one day, one game, one period, one shift at a time. It's not going to happen overnight. We have a ways to go, pure and simple.

Yeah, there have been some good and some bad for sure. But...we're pretty damn solid. Nashville had us bent over, we should have lost in regulation, but they got over-matched in the 3rd.

Calls for us smoking Nashville and Boston and so on and so on made me so nervous yesterday. I had a feeling everyone in Ottawa was getting over-confident - Sens included.

OTTAWA -- It's been a few years since Jonathan Cheechoo topped the 50-goal mark. It must seem even longer after games like the Ottawa Senators' last one.
Cheechoo, acquired during the off-season from the San Jose Sharks,
played less than eight minutes -- a season low so far -- in an overtime
loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
More tellingly, when the Senators needed goals in the third period,
the former Rocket Richard Trophy winner found himself rooted to the
bench by coach Cory Clouston.
"It wasn't necessarily punishment," Clouston said Friday, hours
after the Senators used a shortened bench to rally from a 3-0
third-period deficit before eventually losing 6-5. "We just went with
guys we felt were playing well and were going to give us a little bit
of jump and it obviously worked."

I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread, it's too long for me to go through it all. But apparently the Sens and Preds hold the record now for most goals scored in a game by defensemen, with 8. The previous record was 7 in a Rangers/Caps game back in 1992.

Craziness! Man, I wish we had won that one. It's been a rough few games for Sens fans, with great highs and terrible lows. Hopefully we can win the next 3.

I mentioned it somewhere. Not sure if it was this thread or the Saturday game, though.
