Read the article for details, but here's a quick summary. They stopped when a young woman jumped in front of their car on Fallowfield. She said the guy in a car pulled over on the other side sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her. The gir was already on a 911 call. So they tell her to get in the car and chase the guy, at speeds up to 170 kh/h, through red lights and some semi-residential speeds. Chase goes on for quite a long time.

Now, the stupid part. The girl said the guy who assaulted her was an acquaintance, and early on in the chase they read the guy's license plate to the 911 operator. Why was there ever a need for a chase that endangered all of their lives plus other drivers on the road (it was only around 11 PM). And why did the operator not call off the chase (at least after the license plate number was noted)?

Heroes or idiots? My vote is on the latter.

I couldn't even get passed their picture and the brief description of the events when I first saw that this morning. They looked like idiots and the whole occurance seemed moronic. My first thought was "Jason must be so proud Spezza's brother and his roommate chase drunk driver 455378 "

Whats more disturbing is that the operator (as you say) didn't call them off and that there was any need to follow the guy---i.e. police response should have been swift enough to preclude a chase.

Glory seekers...that all those two are.

Think this would have been front page news if the guy wasn't Spezza's brother? I doubt it.

In any case, they played a part in getting a rapist off the streets. Heroes or idiots, the end result makes this world a slightly better place.

Glory seekers are right.

“I tried punching through his window,” Spezza said.

LOL.

LOL.

I don't know which brother I feel worse for: J.Spezza for having such a dunce for a brother or M.Spezza for getting to live in his brother's shadow?

The girl knew who the guy was; they gave the 911 operator the ;icense plate number. The only thing they managed to do was to get a drunk driver off the road quicker. Except while they were accomplishing this feat they were endangering lives.

Even drunk, I think the chances of him hurting someone go down if he's not driving 170 km/h, and if he goes straight home.

Thats a little too logical for these guys, Prags. Maybe you can use some crayons to draw a picture for them.

Utterly stupid.

How many other people's lives were put at risk doing that?

Dumb.

They obviously didn't know what they were doing and thank god the police helped them figure it out by telling them not to stop the chase Spezza's brother and his roommate chase drunk driver 455378

I have no doubt they will take a close look at how this all transpired. Did the dispatcher know they were running red lights and almost having head on collisions at 170km/h with other innocent by-standers?

I would think he would, but then again it's not settled that they wont get charged for their antics so I agree there will probably more to this. But in the end they'll still come out as heros in the media and while I have nothing against their intentions to help the young lady, I'm sure there were better and safer ways to do so
