Interesting pick. With 13 points in his 17 games with the Blue Jackets he was on a 63-point pace. CBS Sports lists him as the #1 center on their depth chart (although Yahoo lists him #1 behind Brassard.

If you are Hitch, what do you do? Put Brassard and his 47 career games on the top line and hope for no sophomore slump? Or Vermette and his 60+% face off winning percentage? Even as the #2 he should be able to top his career high of 53 points, and with any significant time centering Nash, look out.

That was one of the remarkable things about Brassard last year though, he was playing on the second line, and usually on the 2nd PP (albeit got promoted at the end) and still managed the 25pts in 30gp. They have a solid and underrated selection of top 6 forwards.

So who was centering Nash in the first 65 games of the season? I see Umberger is listed as being able to play center, but he's not a top-line center by any stretch.

Anyhow, speculations are fun. We don't know for sure who will be centering Nash or who will be on the other wing,for that matter. According to the CBS Sports depth chart it will be Vermette-Nash-Voracek. On the other hand, maybe Hitch will want to put together a "kid" line with Brassard centering Filatov and Voracek. That would likely mean Vermette is getting top-line minutes with Nash.

BTW, I'm not at all convinced we are thinking of the same player, although it is likely. I've got 5 defensemen all projecting to be within 5 points of each other, including the one. The drop-off after that isn't all that big, either. I've got 24 picks between this round and the next, and assuming only half of those taken will be defensemen, that's only a drop of about 5 points. On the other hand, if I don't pick the top forward, again, assuming half of the 24 picked until my next time are forwards, the drop off is 7 points. Of course these are strictly based on one set of projections, which are usually off from reality by quite a bit.

I've got a bit of a decision coming up.

If I decide to pick a D I'll be sure to listen for the scream of "Kaaaaaahn!" coming from your direction.

Clutch updated the banned word list with some mods I sent him Let's give it a quick try.

Babcock is the coach in Detroit, and Hitchcock in Columbus. Neither one, as far as I know, is a Wangsipper.
