The Alfredsson thingy is a technicality; it's based on his contract being grandfathered in the new CBA.

The foligno fisher shannon line should not be broken up. They showed real chemistry last year. That said, they should not be our second line.

It should be something like:

Alfie Spezza Smith
Regin Comrie Kovalev
Foligno Fisher Shannon
Rutuu Kelly Neil

Obviously if Heatley is gone, Smith and Regin could be replaced with proven scorers but, even that line up doesn't look half bad.
There is nothing to say your second and third lines cant have the same amount of ice time.

So if Heatley is gone you take out Regin and Smith, but if Heatley is still here, he's a bench warmer? I don't get it. Shrug

So, with Smith out and no more changes by Murray and if we assume both Regin and Karlsson can crack the line-up (meaning Lee goes back down)... we'll look like this with $1.16M in cap space:

very nice work shabbs and capgeek, like the looks of that line up to be honest with you.

My only concern would be does Murray feel that's enough cap space? That's tight.

I look at 1.61 as "nearly 2 million" Wink

for injury callups, that should be plenty. I personally don't care if we stand pat at the deadline this year with that lineup.

True... I guess between $1.5M and $2.0M is a good area to be in to start with.

If Regin does not make the roster... Murray could bring Lee back up and slot Schubert in as a forward. That would put our cap space at under $1M though... very tight.

Actually, it's $1.16M. Typo.

You dealing Heatley for air buddy? Comrie sucks dude, there is a reason no team in the NHL has signed the guy yet. Get over it, he isnt coming back.

I have a question: Why are we buying out Daniel Alfredsson? Sarcasm

okay not as comfortable as we could be, Schubert may be dealt for a late pick or something like that to help us breathe a bit easier.

that was a buyout of his earlier contract, since they renegotiated another extension, his previous contract had to be bought out.

With the retirement of Smith the Sens blueline looks a little soft to me. Philips, Volchenkov and Schubert are the only physical and punishing defencemen on the team. And with Schubert not even guaranteed a spot on the team - either as a forward or a defenceman - Is Murray now in the market for a big physical type defenceman? I can't think of anyone from Bingo who fits the bill.
